Cycling back from pub after choir practice there was an amazing full moon here in Wilts with a very bright planet right next to it which I thought was Venus but turns out to be Jupiter.

I've just noticed a lot of thunderstorms clustered in the eastern central United States, which is also unusual to say the least - I wonder if we'll be hearing of tornadoes from that part of the world.

I've been proved right! Tornadoes are really kicking off in and around the Mississippi Delta region right now, and commentators over there are remarking on how early this is in their season, and the extent to which it could be down to El Nino, because the tornado season along the Gulf of Mexico coastline doesn't normally get off the ground (pardon the pun) until the end of March. They think the US could be in for a bad time of it this year as regards tornadoes.

Here we had a couple of light showers today, and temperatures now down to near frost levels. It looks likely to remain on the cold side throughout the country for the next week or so, whilst remaining generally dry.

It's officially Storm Jake (although as the highest winds are only going to affect such a small part of the UK I don't see why it should be yet another named storm)

Yesterday reached an amazing 14C here, no wind, no need for a heavy jacket. Today it's not going to get much above 7C and the snow showers we were initially promised are just going to be rain. Met Office records are showing that England & Wales are having the warmest and wettest Winter since 1910.
