Today's been rather nice and sunny but a lot colder.
Yes, it was quite windy on Friday. The road bridge was shut for much of the day. Yesterday it snowed overnight and there were brief periods of snow during the day, but it didn't lie.

Today it's overcast, 2º C, but quite windless.

By the way, I really don't get this naming storms. What is the point?

It's so that people are aware, prepared to take action and consequently can't blame the Met Office for not telling them when they lose their roof tiles or get flooded! I think it stems from the really bad storms (the ones that washed away the railway line at Dawlish, etc.) being named St. Jude and St. Crispin by the tabloids and the idea caught on.

However, I am against it for the simple reason of the boy who cried Wolf, because no storm affects all the UK at the same time, illustrated by Petrushka above saying it's just been a damp squib - we'll get so used to dismissing and ignoring named storms as not affecting us that when a proper one strikes we'll be all at sea unprepared.

Having said all that mangerton, there's a nasty orange wind warning sitting on top of Scotland for Monday and Tuesday!

Weren't you living near the South East Coast in 1987, Bbm? Now that was a storm! AND didn't need no poncy southern NAME, either! (Although some of us called it "Fish's Error".)

Yes I was. Same town as I am now! I thought the wind this time was harder in sound than in 1987

Thanks Anna for the information about named storms, and for the orange wind warning.

It's a damn nuisance when the road bridge shuts, as a lot of people use it on a daily basis and it's a long detour via Perth. I want to visit Aged Mother in St A tomorrow morning before work, so I hope all is well.

Mixed day today in this bit of the Pennines: clear skies and sunshine this morning - right up to the point when I was furthest from home on my walk, at which point the heavens opened with a downpour of heavy drizzle. This stopped about half-an-hour after I got back in, and the sun came back out - y'know: daring me! Very windy and overcast since it saw I wasn't going to accept the challenge.

From reports this lunchtime, I'm amazed that you managed to stay upright on your walk, ferney!

Ferney been on the local news again...?

                          ?

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
