Hello All!!!
Just now exercising my "new" computer - really an amalgamated model made up of cannibalized parts from two others by my computer whizz who lives in a housing association flat whose interior resembles a cross between junk yard and factory, located in St Mary Cray - not that far from Saly's district if my geography serves me right!
Have really enjoyed catching up on everyone's news as the weather cheers up, and looking forward to perusing the gardens thread.
Cheers!

Nice to have you back S-A. Yes St Mary Cray is not far away;does the wizz-kid do lesser jobs like sorting out printers that won't print and speeding up dodgy laptops without losing all my pics, as someone did sometime ago? The gardens thread has some lovely sites, the young and fit will be able to get to the real thing soon.Cheers, saly

Still cool but sunny here. I've been out and on my feet doing a walking tour about Women Patronesses of Architecture including Alva Smith Vanderbilt. Alva's daughter Consuelo was one of the "Dollar Princesses" who exchanged fortunes for titles. She married the Duke of Marlborough, provided him with an heir and a spare (and money), and then ditched him for a Frenchman named ...Balsan. Time to do a bit more gardening while the sun still shines!

Well, with allthis talk of laptops moving around I am now sitting at the kitchen table, which is warm and sunny, the kitchen not the table. Unfortunately, the keyboard is level with my chin, which means I must buy a kitchen type chair that is higher, but with a supportive back.
It must have been cooler in the night as the heating has switched itself on. Later I'm looking forward to all those flowers and gardens that appeared yesterday. Wonderful.

He does computer updates, sal, but not, I think, printers - or he'd a-been able to sort mine out. Anyways he's more-or-less confined to home for time being with broken leg and other quite serious problems - I'm not expecting too much of him for the next 6 months.

Thanks S_A. I bought a printer HP Photosmart 7850 with my first [and only] computer in 2007. Being self taught I bought expensive ink cartridges six months ago, put them in okay, [coz has checked], but nothing works.
I am told it would be cheaper to buy a new printer than pay someone to look at it. Weird world.
Do look at the lovely gardens we have on that thread. best, saly

Drizzly weather here. It's a good day to catch up with paperwork at my desk. Lecture this eveing on Quaker merchants and the slave trade.

That's the trouble with calling in an "expert", saly
But we must save you from the clutches of PC World at St Mary Cray, where in my experience they're always keen to relieve you of as much of your money as possible, as quickly as possible!
For what it's worth, I've had a couple of Samsung Colour Laser printers now, amazingly cheap (for what they are -- nothing's actually cheap as we understand the term, is it?!) at about £80. The CLP-310 is the current one. I'll try to remember where I got them -- online. Much prettier results and less messy than inkjets and seem to last for ever.
