Another insomniac here Saly, not helped by a raging sore throat so I'm off to make a cup of tea.

saly, I'm a bit of a night owl. I should get 8 hours sleep but often do with far fewer hours than that. I no longer work 9-5, M-F and have a rather irregular schedule including weekend work. This makes for irregular sleep habits...and moments of panic when I wake up in the morning and wonder what I'm doing for the day, or even what day of the week it is. At the moment, I'm in transition from my winter schedule (lots of free time) to my spring/summer/autumn schedule with lots of commitments scattered through out the week and on weekends. Tonight, I'm gong to bed early with a book (rereading Jane Eyre in anticipation of the new film) and a cup of herb tea. Tomorrow I need to clear up a mess of papers on my desk instead of enjoying myself on-line.

Curalach, I hope your sore throat feels better soon. Have you tried honey and lemon in your tea to soothe your throat?

        best wishes,

          Marthe,
Thank you for your good wishes. I must confess to sipping something rather stronger which is made in Scotland! For medical purposes of course!!

Curalach, 'something stronger which is made in Scotland' trumps honey and lemon any time! I'm sure that will do the trick!

Morning all. Chaos at g-i castle today as we have a nuclear submarine Astute arriving in port at lunchtime and I am part of a group which disapproves...but we are very non-violent and civilised and all over 50 so nothing gets done about it. Still we must protest.

Because it's in our genes, I suppose - and because a Pressurised Water Reactor a la Fukushima in the city centre surrounded by cruise ships and shoppers is really really not a clever idea.

Morning Sal! Isn't insomnia dreadful? Tonight I fell asleep at around nine, but woke up around two thanks to a combination of bad dreams and loose ends from the day-- and now we're just rounding 5:30AM. Agh! Sorry to hear you have dry mouth from the meds...my friend uses this off-the-shelf rinse:

Discover useful information about a dry mouth and learn how Biotène products including mouthwash, gel and spray can help you relieve dry mouth signs.

He says it seems to help-- have you tried it? Worth a look! At times I have the opposite problem, but the less said about that the better. Oh well, I'll write a proper email when I'm up to it...I should get back to looking at the garden thread and hold steady for the Spring.

                      Cheers, E.

I have put a fairly tough avocado and one or two smaller indoor plants outside. Fingers crossed that the really cold nights are behind us.

My little kitchen thermometer registered over 20c in the night when I got up for my 1am cuppa. Still cold at the moment in north facing living room though.

You...and your tough avo are brave, greenilex. My houseplants don't go outside for their summer holiday until sometime in May. Though, our house is cold enough that the poor things must be used to the cold by now! Here we're in USDA zone 6b (on the cusp of zone 7a) www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ . According to the Farmer's Almanac, our last frost date is May 8th https://www.farmersalmanac.com/weath...ge-frost-dates . I've got a tough old avocado that stayed out until November last year until I took pity on it and brought the poor thing inside. It looked a bit worse for the wear until recently. Now it's putting out new, tender growth which will not stand up to the cool temps and strong winds we've been having lately. It's around 45F now but supposed to go up to 60F on Sunday! What kind of plants do you have in your collection?
