Lot's of lightning showing up in the last half hour in the Winchester area, I see.

I was caught in a monsoon -like downpour on the M4 today. Traffic all sensibly slowed to 30/40 MPH.
Very, very wet indeed, after prolonged rain in the Maidenhead area between about 9.00 and 11.00I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

It seems there was thunder all around NW London at around 12 noon. I was in the garage and noticed heavy rain but never heard thunder, but it would surely have been audible only 8 miles away, and so I included it in my local weather diary.
After the rain cleared here at 4.30 I cycled down to W Dulwich to get some bread, and noted several places where I had to wade through water a foot or so deep. I would imagine we've had a good inch of rainfall since this morning.

That August Bank Holiday weather in full:
- the current summary on the BBC website for west London...
.
And as for the Sunday trip to Glyndebourne for the Ravel, this is for the Lewes area:
