Talk of a heatwave next weekend. Any truth in this, S-A? I've lost count of just how many years a heatwave begins and the summer really takes off on my birthday (next Friday). It happened in both 1975 and 1976 and did so again last year as well as several in between.
Despite the sun being out this morning, there is a chill wind really pushing those temperatures down and my fingers went numb with cold."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

I feel sorry for my tomato plants which have been out for two weeks and are subject to constant wind buffeting and lower than expected temperatures. I have staked them already although they are only about 9 inches high.
Incidentally, I had a tasty pint the other day from a new brewery. Its name is pleasingly appropriate to our ongoing thread. These are good times for ale drinkers with new brews sprouting up all over the place.

20.00 hrs in Ultima Thule on the first day of summer, and it is one of the fiercest wind and rain storms we have had this year, shovelling it down and wind that has torn clematis with its trellis off walls, and hurled rubbish bins yards down the road. Amazing. Wind 35 mph plus and predicted to rise.

Temperatures today have struggled to get into double figures and the cold wind has lowered them further. This is the most lamentable June day I can remember in decades. The heating is on, the Berghaus worn and gloves and scarf wouldn't have gone amiss.
Oh dear, it's just started coming down in buckets again and crashing against the window making a fearful racket!"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

Don't expect that sort of thing in Merrie England on 1 June for goodness' sake!
(Not been too bad in London - just grey and blustery with the odd shower)

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
