What else can you gamble on? 'I bet you King Harold loses at the Battle of Hastings'? You try going into Ladbrooks and offering a tenner on England winning the World Cup in 1966!" etc etc etc

Two hours ago the skies darkened, and a loud boom of thunder announced seven minutes' worth of torrential rain, bringing the temperature down from a mingy 14 C to a really mean 10 C, from which it has hardly yet recovered. Coat on, therefore, for the weekly groceries expedition. Oh boy, I do hope we get this expected change to a warmer weather regime by next weekend. Salad days/weeks/months ahead! Anyway, tomorrow looks likely to be the best day of the weekend for outdoor activities.
What's become of Anna??

Yeah! It's not so good in the Highlands, either. Occasional bright periods interspersed with heavy rain - and cold too! We were in the Outer Hebrides last week and it wasn't too bad.
I seem to recall reading in April that the whole country was in line for three months of very hot conditions. Wishful thinking, eh?Money can't buy you happiness............but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery - Spike Milligan

.... come back Anna and put a stop to this sort of thing !"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
