At least the day-long heavy rain that was forecast for today earlier in the week hasn't appeared - drizzle all morning and now overcast and bitterly cold.

Apparently there was a vivid Red Sky In Morning here in London today, (I was tucked up!) That would normally presage a wet day - bad weather advancing from the west - but in this instance the front approached, and then got pushed back to whence it came by a high pressure build-up to the east, which is expected to give us 4-5 days of cold north-easterlies everywhere. A similar weather set-up in July or August would likely have produced violent thunderstorms all the way from Cornwall through Wales and up to the west of Scotland, so that's a relief, knowing that!

A beautiful if cold afternoon here in S Yorks.

I have too much time on my hands today. I was idly looking at Google Maps and found two circles to the east of Denver, Colorado. They must be fields irrigated by a rotating sprinkler. Going in closer was surprising:

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.
            Pacta sunt servanda !!!

I had been looking for this which I had spotted some time ago.

Any guesses what it is? (No, not a prototype Coke can).

I would imagine it's some sort of test track as it's very flat terrain, a close up reveals some industrial type buildings on the left?
Are you spending this cold (it's not much above 5° here) afternoon faffing around with maps rather than getting a delicious meal ready for Mrs. Flay when she returns from work?

Yes indeed - a test track for a proposed "People Mover" autonomous transit system formerly under development by Otis Transportation Technology Division (TTD) in the mid- to late 1980s near the Denver area. It has been abandoned since the early 1990s.

Too right. She's on her way home and nothing is done. I think we'll go out tonight for a meal!

Actually, more mundane, just criss-crossing the centre today and it's going to be so much easier aboard the Cali-pede! It's actually sunny![/COLOR

Sorry about that Anna... It was exactly what the weather map I saw yesterday seemed to presage...

Quite markedly chilly, this merry a.m.

Not enough to threaten the plum blossom yet, but kinda threatnin'.

And down by here too! Twas only 2.5° when I went out this morning, crept up to just under 6° now but take off two degrees for windchill ..... Brrr!! The main road into Llanidloes was blocked yesterday morning by snow! Today it's just grey and forecast to stay that way.... I think things are due to improve on the warmth front from midweek onwards.
(I do hope Flay's romantic gesture to disguise his laziness resulted in a nice meal out last night rather than a telling-off. )

Edit: forgot to say, the eclipse on the 20th is to be covered live on BBC from 9am - just in case anyone cannot be bothered to go outside to see it!!
