A very dreary day. What my father used to call: 'One of the dark days before Christmas'.
Stormy Weather

Originally posted by Anna View PostFrenchie came to visit you!? It was warmer here, 8.5° and very dull and gloomy. Today is colder as there's a strong Northerly wind but it's a beautiful sunny day which makes everyone more cheerful. Frost tonight I should think.
Cold weather doesn't stop you from having a quick whizz on your bike though does it? I agree that comfort eating is the curse of Winter months but we need more calories to stay warm ..... cauliflower cheese is my go-to warmth provider!
Oh, and french frank said on another thread yesterday that she was coming up to London for a "jolly". There won't be much encouragement from the weather!

I had a quick whizz on the bike this morning. Didn't half make my eyes water. It's a north wind, you see..."...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Here we go agin! This is what's exercising our minds at the moment, tropical storm Hagupit that is approaching, gaining momentum as it does so (it may be a typhoon by now). The two predicted scenarios are represented by the two arrows. (We live in the central band of the Philippines, but on the western side. Current models suggest the path may be north of us.) I'll keep you updated.

On a more mundane level - the first frost of the winter this morning in the Pennines.
Pabs, I'm sure the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of being where you are?

My son was delayed by 3 days last week in getting from Tacloban in Leyte (where he has been doing voluntary rebuilding work) to Tagbilaran in Bohol, by tropical storm Queenie (topically named for the current conversation!)
A lot of property was damaged on Bohol, but also many livelihoods would have been badly affected. For example 142 motorized bancas were destroyed while 49 fishing boats were partially damaged. And that was only a "storm"Pacta sunt servanda !!!
