The day began with a thick haar which dissipated by midday, giving way to a fine sunny afternoon. Very pleasant for a longish walk down to the surviving stretch of the ditch of the Antonine Wall and a stroll through the woods at Old Polmont.

A very solid layer of stratocumulus over London today which is unlikely either to shift or break up, contrary to what we were told earlier. Visibility non-existent beyond about six miles: typical "anticyclonic gloom"; temperature maxed out at 18.5 2 hours ago, just a tad below normal. Looks like September will continue August's cool trend.

I wonder if Anna will be visiting any of the free Heritage Open Day locations this weekend

Very unlikely mercia as we in Wales had our Open Days last weekend!! (Wales and Scotland have different dates, and I believe central London has a date later in September?)
It's a very good scheme, I hope everyone takes advantage of seeing places normally locked away - such as a Masonic Temple, which I visited last year.

On topic: Yesterday 20°, then cloud cover, this morning warm but cloudy, still desperate for rain here, garden is turning to dust. Good early crop of blackberries though.

Edit: Just seen this. Due to a solar flare we could be seeing the Northern Lights early Saturday morning, as far down as Cotswolds and S. Wales! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...r-Britain.html

Sunny for the first time in several days here today, and at 20 C warm enough for exposing my upper half for a couple of hours this afternoon, notwithstanding a gentle to moderate breeze taking the edge off the warmth. Unfortunately the sun now beams down at an angle less than 45 degrees after 4 pm, disappearing behind the line of tall trees separating our manor from next door's, thus restricting any advantages from next week's very warm conditions. Yes, I'm expecting it could mark the start of an Indian Summer !

Was a funny handshake obligatory for gaining access, Anna? Our Open House London is on the 20th and 21st of this month, and I really must try to remember; this year has been fantastic for open garden days/evenings and various historical walks around London.

                      Thanks for the alert, Anna!

Doubtless the unsuspecting burghers of Dulwich were thankful for small mercies...

Yes, a lovely afternoon and warm in the sun out of the wind.

Had a drinks event in a rather special place this evening, a bar at the top of a relatively new hotel: the weather, time and location speak for themselves, I think!

Arrived in Istanbul this morning, beautiful sunny day, if a tad humid.

25 degrees! Everyone's feeling cold. There's a typhoon (cat. 3) heading for Luzon, north of Manila, but we're getting the fallout. More rain to come.

Very little is peaceful in the Pacific.

Very calm here in NW2. Dull grey sky but no rain, I'd say it was quite mild, very little breeze. Tomorrow the Residents' Association of Queen's Park (NW6 dontchaknow) is having its annual shindig inc a dog show, misshapen vegetable display (ah Cyril Fletcher of long ago) and a raspberry jam competition - my sort of shindig

                                Let's hope it stays dry
