Woken at 4:45 this morning by huge claps of thunder (before I realized what was happening, I'd leapt out of bed and taken a bow) - and it's been raining ever since: sometimes heavy drizzle, others a real downpour, but never completely stopping. Forecast to continue all day, but then back to sunshine and cloud for the rest of next week.

Yesterday (predicted the hottest day of the year) was windy with a lot of cloud, but also muggy, so the refreshing rain is most welcome, and the garden looks and smell all the better for it.

Cherchez la femme! Looby Loo would appear when Andy and Teddy weren't around......

Lovely afternoon here now, just under 22° blue skies, some high broken cumulus drifting along, very nice and no reports (far as I know) of flash floods or other disasters.

Heavy rain in London early this morning but a lovely hot day at Newbury races this afternoon. Just on my way back into London right now.

A couple of showers here this morning, and it's now been raining constantly since 4 pm.

Lovely here this afternoon with humidity and temperature dropping back from 27 C at 2 pm. Amazingly enough, still too hot to sunbathe! However the western edge of the "Spanish Plume" is still meandering just to our east, with a clump of what looks suspiciously like anvil cloud swinging back from the SE. If so - and Brummie Simon seems to think so - it will be a repeat of yesterday evening, but this system should be out of the way by Monday, and then it looks like a pretty reasonable warm week right across the UK.

We had a three-hour gap in the rain from just after three o'clock this afternoon. I went for a walk, but the air was heavy with humidity and it wasn't the most pleasant of experiences. Then the sun came out and practically all cloud disappeared. But now the rain has started again, with thunder & lightning forecast within the next hour or so. The forecast is for dry weather from tomorrow onwards.

Just had the first roll of thunder from a shower cloud I've been watching building up over NW London for the past hour. The Hampstead horizon has disappeared from view, wind's getting up; it's taking its time, and once it reaches us it's not going to be in any hurry to move on.

So much for my Sunday afternoon stroll.

I'm listening to Test Match Special on R4 long-wave and there has been a gradual increase in static fizzing over the last hour. It also feels much more humid and I would now describe the sky and overcast and darkening as I look southwards.

Beautiful here. 36 degrees, clear blue sky, light breeze. Been a bit windy off-shore, so until Wednesday, will stick to the beach.

has there been an oil spill out there?

Been up the smoke today, having a picnic in Richmond park. Very warm, sunny spells, cyclists and Deer out in force.
A very nice place for an afternoon off.
Didn't see any anti gergiev protesters, even with the RAH just a few miles away.......
