Congratulations on the solstice to you all.
Someone here extolled the delight of having a luminous and cloudless sky until that sort of time at Midsummer - can't find that post now. But it was lovely indeed, plus a serene atmosphere among the dozens of picnickers and viewers covering the top of the hill (viewed from the foot, with the light of the sunset behind, the silhouetted figures could have been primitive worshippers atop a prehistoric barrow...)
It was wonderful sitting seeing the light change every moment, and the lamps along the paths at the foot of the hill lay pools of light around them, and the lights of the city glow brighter and brighter on the horizon, all under a translucent royal blue sky.
And then we drove home, feeling pretty magical, with RVW's 'Tallis Fantasia' on the hifi...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Anna
Yesterday I met my neighbours' new grandchild who was born on Monday weighing a hefty 9lb 12oz, he's called Wilfred, lovely looking baby with a mass of dark hair. It's their 5th grandchild and - the 5th boy!!
Weather was near enough perfect, around 22° so not too hot, not at all humid but too burning to sit in direct sunlight for any length of time. Evening was totally cloudless, pale tangerine and duck egg blue sky, seems a few more days of this and then showery but warm (don't mind some rain having put bedders in) Going to bed when it's not properly dark reminds me of being a child in the Summer when I was sent to bed and could hear all the big boys and girls playing outside .......

On topic, a gorgeous morning here. It's criminal to be sitting indoors tapping away at the keyboard on a morning like this. I'm off for a walk."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

An estimated 37,000 people gather at Stonehenge to mark the summer solstice, as police report a small number of arrests.

As Anna has said, great to see salymap's post. I look forward to many more.
OT, overcast here, but very warm.
Yesterday I decided to celebrate Midsummer Day by going on another of Scotrail's cheap away days for the aged. This time the destination was Carlisle, which is as far south as the English let us come at a cut price. It was a lovely day - bright, sunny, and really warm.
