It's a beautiful sunny day here with not a rain cloud in sight. This morning I did something I haven't done for ages - I purchased an icecream cornet from the van in the market! Sometimes those soft icecreams from the machine are very wet and drippy but this one was absolutely gorgeous, thick and creamy (and very good value at £1), I really enjoyed it.
Welcome back Ams, did you fly or get there by train?

For some reason I was subjected to a vigorous body search at the start of each journey. I thanked the UK searcher for "a very thorough, professional and inimate service" and he had the grace to roar with laughter and gave me an extra pat, which I shall always treasure

Reminds me of Billy Connolly's advice about how to abbreviate your body search: sigh and writhe slightly with pleasure, and moan "Touch me there! touch me there!!"

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Rarely can the phrase "he was asking for it" have been more relevant!!

I am advised that members of Border Force are recruited from those men & women who have an even lower sense of humour quotient than the boys & girls of the VAT Squad of HMRC.

The weather is showing some slight improvement after a fairly dreadful week. It hasn't rained today - yet. It poured torrentially here yesterday evening, but there was no t & l.

The cold front passed through just after midday here, marked by 10 minutes' worth of heavy rain - probably the last for a week - leaving a legacy of heavy broken cloud, a gentle northerly breeze, and temperatures back again to this morning's 19 C. Last nights's reported heavy storms showed up on the sequence on the BBC site, moving south just to the west of Windsor, heading for Guildford, and not touching London at all. Shame I decided not to risk going out!

warm , sunny, a touch humid here.
security at Edinburgh airport seems to be modelled on an old Eastern Europe pre wall model. Or an American one.
officious, at any rate. Amongst other things, dealing with a non Uk passenger carrying a case full of small tubes of oil paint pushed them well beyond their tolerance levels.
welcome to Britain. Or Scotland.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Muggy, sticky day in the Pennines today - generally overcast (like Eastenders) but it hasn't rained, and there's been quite a bit of sunshine. More of the same forecast for tomorrow after a couple of hours of light showers in the early hours, which I hope will freshen the air.Numquam Satis!

Never mind the security at airports. It's nothing to what one had to contend with when crossing the Berlin Wall through Checkpoint Charlie on foot (as I did in 1980). Felt like a character from a John Le Carre novel but a fascinating if scary experience. The East German border guards were not nice, believe me.
On topic, still pretty warm here, some sunshine but some very dark clouds at about 7pm. Expected a thunderstorm but had just a few spots of rain ensued."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
