Beginning to look ominously grey 'oop 'ere, wind going round to the NE down out of the fells, which usually presages snow. Surely not?

The storm is over, the sun is shining, and the pine tree is intact! This was more of a "Cape and Islands" storm...as in Cape Cod and the islands off the coast of Massachusetts: Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, the Elizabeth Islands.

Today's weather proves an amateur of 50+ years' observings such as myself can still learn something new about the subject: huge storms rearing their impressive clouds skywards even though the temperature at ground level had not exceeded 10 degrees C. Previously I would have thought such a phenomenon only possible in heatwave conditions, or in winter along a convergence line like a frontal system.

dunno about the science &c of it all S_A but we have had death grey clouds, mist and torrential rain and hail at temperatures between 2 to 4 C in the middle kingdom all afternoon ... we were utterly stranded in the restaurantAccording to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Well, we're having those 'death grey clouds' plus rain at the moment. Our temps are above freezing but damp and chilly nevertheless. Good news: our tree man examined the dead pine tree behind the house plus the branches of an apple tree hanging over the roof of the house, and gave an estimate of $600.00 to take down and remove the offending trees and limbs. The HH wants to keep the apple wood for use as fire wood, and a bit of the pine, to use as kindling. This helps knock down the price of the job. Meanwhile, we're all hoping for warmer weather here in southern New England. At the moment it's truly BRRR.

Not balmy yet. Steady rain is moving in this afternoon through tomorrow. April showers are here early.

I am quite literally in Brussels tonight.
Its Boiling here, must be about 18/20 degrees.
Sadly Belgiums beaches are not one of its greatest assets, so its cultural stuff tomorrow.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

We might get a bit of the Golden Orb tomorrow...I see a touch of red on the western horizon, perhaps a bit of "red sky at night, sailor's delight" tomorrow. We deserve a bit of good weather after the torrential rains of yesterday and the snow/sleet/rain of today. Of course it might all be an April Fool.
