The golden orb was in full force today and yesterday though no lawn mowers were heard in the background. There's no grass to cut yet. We've had two glorious, sunny days with bright sun and clear blue skies. The HH and I started the Spring clean in the garden yesterday. Today, HH drove the MG, top down, to the pub to watch the Man City v Wigan match on NBC sports. Good result for his home town so he' s in good spirits.

17 degrees was reported down here in Kent yesterday.

I looked at last year’s gardening diary:
13 March ‘blizzard all night, paraffin heater went out, tomato seedlings all froze’,
            24 March ‘froze all day.

Are we still expecting this year’s share of cold spells? But for now, another perfect gardening weather.

Nothing on the meteorological horizon, DS.

Temperature quite a bit down on yesterday as the wind has gone around to the north-north-east, importing a lot of low stratus across London, but still very poor visibility. I hope the latter improves by tomorrow - big family reunion, with two parts based in E Anglia meeting up with one part in the W Country, using London as a sort of mid-point and me as host . Unfortunately there's nothing much on in Town at the moment likely to appeal to all factions, exhibitionwise.

Thank you for your reassurance. I shall get on with digging and planting without worrying about What if… The ground is surprisingly easy to work after all that rain.

Good luck for your family reunion. Discovery is often better than already familiar things (when it works!!)

Mind, cold spells are one thing, frosty nights quite normal until May, so best to delay the tender annuals and perenials for the time being.

Well if I was coming to London tomorrow I'd be very pleased if you took me to the Viking Exhibition at the British Museum ... or even just a trip to Tate Modern and/or a trip down the Thames in this weather would be good (plus a nice lunch of course!) Hope it goes well - isn't Tuesday your jazz night? You could take them all there for the evening!

Over 17° yesterday, think it was only Scotland, the NW, N. Ireland and N. Wales that got the gloomy weather. A friend helped me to clear and reseed a disaster area (5 bags waiting for green collection tomorrow) and like doversoul I'm thinking of what summer vegs I can grow. Cooler today, high of 11.8° blue and sky with occasional high grey cloud, wind a bit cool.

I wonder if my ancestor King Rollo, be mentioned!!
Incidentally, a predecessor was a king called Gandalf(where JRR Tolkien sourced that name for the wizard in LOTR)

Well Anna, I hadn't thought of the Viking Exhibition, so thanks for that suggestion. I do now know that one of the party has booked us for lunch in this place:

I freaked out when she said Sloane Square, but she's right about the food not being that expensive, as you can see. One can easily make assumptions about restaurant prices in swanky districts. Luckily there are one or two veggie dishes on the a la carte. It looks the sort of place where the Made in Chelsea crowd probably hang out! The W Country lot have to get their coach at 7.30, so no opportunity of taking them to the Amersham Arms. I'll probably be feeling whacked by that time in any case!

It was an amazingly good day in w. Scotland today. I was in a train* so not sure about the temp, but lovely and sunny, and Ben Nevis was totally visible, which in my experience rarely happens. Pity the train windows were so dirty, as it meant taking pics was rather pointless.

                            *see tourism thread for details.

I've used that branch of Côte when I've been to a concert at Cadogan Hall S_A and it's good and relatively reasonably priced - you can eat/drink well within a modest budget or you can lash out, a good combination.

I hope that your reunion goes well
