your talent for offensive misinterpretation is unrivalled BO ... 11594 was intended as a support for evidence and rationality and for the proposition that the terms and concepts of belief/faith were unfit for purpose in understanding the changing climate, the impact it is having and will have, and what might be done to offset the threat to humanity ... i would have thought that that was the point of 11592 as well ...

If I may interrupt you gentlemen to ask a simple question of our weather experts (Richard, S_A,?) re the Thames Valley flooding? Staines, etc., are about 20 miles from London. Will the water (plus the expected extra 4” forecast) when it travels down the Thames cause flooding in central London or are there locks/sluices/canals to divert it? (My geography of the area is hazy apart from the M4!)
As to climate change and science, sea levels are indeed rising. The EA says the Thames barrier has been raised 141 times since 1982, but the need is becoming more frequent. It was closed more than 100 times since 2000 and 13 times in January alone.
Also, re the media frenzy, of course it’s to be expected but other places are under siege too, such as Worcester, who don’t get a look in when it comes to news (and, can I refer back again to Hull in 2007)
On topic: It’s horrible here, driving rain, winds not gale force as they’ve only reached about 45mph but coastal Wales and the West are evidently going to get up to 100mph.

Have you actually been watching the News, Anna? Every flooding report I have seen in the past couple of days has has a section devoted to Worcester, with particular reference to the closures of the City Road bridge. There does seem to be a bit of over-dramatisation re. Datchet. Prompted by the television news reports, I 'phoned a friend who lives between the river and the flooded green which features so much on the news. She reported that the waters had not reached them, and that she was still able to drive from her residence into Windsor, though it did mean the water came up to the bottom of the car's doors en route.
I don't know whether the BBC News in the wilds of Wales included a brief interview with Datchet councilor Jesse Gray, but he was the Royal Borough's Mayor a couple or so years ago, and a one time guide for the Windsor and Eton open top bus tour. He spoke of what a sterling job Dave and his pals were doing re. the floods.
