it is my impression that Chris Smith did not cut the EA budget, rather it is the work of George O ..... - Chris Smith spent the budget but clearly not on the Somerset Levels but likely on highly populated urban areas at risk from flooding that did not flood last time round .... no one expects the Spanish Inquisition eh ....
beautiful light today in the middle kingdom
In a televsion interview a few days ago, Chris Smith was at pains to point out that the budget had indeed been cut by the Treasury and that the priorities for spending it had been set centrally.
In which case, I don't blame him for not wanting to be keel-hauled by a local Tory MP
Ironic to think that the -ny, -y on the end of so many place names in the Levels (including Muchelney) means 'island' and goes back to the times when they were permanent islands.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
Releasing your inner Plantagenet, eh, BBM? - that poor Chris Smith, the most cultured and civilised Culture Minister we've ever had - he shouldn't be mixed up in this!

Ah, that's the one thing that's not been organised, as far as I am aware, Pabs. The government are always quick enough to send aid out to other countries, but when it co0mes to their own, they just seem to bury their heads in the sand!!
