Well I'm blown! Talk about a turn-up for the trousers, "Brummie Simon's"coming around to our point of view after repeatedly reiterating his climate change skepticism:

Well, good for Simon for finally admitting there may be something in climate change! His video posted today warns of 'extreme' conditions this weekend for West & South Wales and the West Country. Here, this morning was ok, starting to rain lightly now. S_A, hardly any day would be suitable for outdoor jobs (unless you have a garden totally paved over) as the ground is so saturated the lightest step results in a squelch of mud! Our local weather forecaster today said 'there will be a continuous conveyor belt of storms' in a very fed-up tone of voice. (I didn't see/hear anything about Simon applying for Met Registration - will he have to pass exams or submit accurate forecasts to be marked?)

Just checked my surfings yesterday, but Simon's bid for Met Office registration no longer seems to be available. Maybe it was already gone when you checked.

Dull raw day here with continuous moderate to heavy rain since mid-morning now turned to thick drizzle. Very little wind to speak of, the temperature, having maxed at 7 C at around 10 am, actually fell to 5 C during the heaviest of the rain, but is now back up to 6. Groceries procurement for the coming week is accomplished - thank goodness! - but I am wondering what has become of Maria, the little Bosnian woman with the golden nose stud, usually outside Saint Sprees selling the Beeg Eeshoo on weekdays, always warmly greeting of her "regulars", but not seen for a few weeks now.

On Monday this week the BBC weather forecast for Thursday (today) was a big yellow sun and brilliant sunshine, no rain forecast whatsoever. Well I've just got in after trudging through an hour of heavy rain, absolutely soaked, and the current BBC forecast is for it to continue until dawn tomorrow I could have forecast with that degree of inaccuracy with a bit of luck and a pin!

A similar woman sells the "Beeg Eeshoo darlink" outside Saint Sprees in Willesden - we always have a chat and I give her £2 and don't take the mag which both perplexes and delights her - there is quite enough newsprint chez moi as it is , thank you. I do hope that Maria turns up safe & well, S_A

Thrashing it down with rain yet again this evening. On a positive note, Severn-Trent Water say that they have enough water to last until September even without a drop more rain. They didn't make clear which September they were talking about!

From what I can see, we're all in for the biggest blow of the winter thus far on Tuesday night, going into Wednesday, as an intense dart board moves into the Irish Sea. But what a beautiful, springlike day today. Colours are gorgeous at the moment, especially rowan tree berries; the first croci are out in S London. Instead of my usual Sunday post-luncheon siesta I walked a circular walk which I normally reserve for summer, of about 6 miles.

Not sure I have heard of croci before. I do approve.

That really surprises me Beefy, as according to the weather reports you should be having the same as we have here, blue skies, sunshine, hardly a cloud in the sky. Still, you soft Londoners don't know what real weather is - probably a stiff breeze and a few raindrops seems like a gale to you! I think here the next band of wind/rain is due to hit around 9pm, our river is looking a bit dodgy (it came over briefly Wednesday afternoon) and the main river into which it flows has now two arches blocked by fallen trees and other debris which will not help the situation.

Lord Smith, Chairman of the EA, is due to visit The Levels today - whereabouts and time are being kept secret .... I imagine he'll be in for a rough ride! (S_A, did you hear from your friends in Dawlish?)

I'm checking their website for details about the gig, rather than bothering them when they're probably up to their necks in decision-making, let alone sea water, Anna. Another friend says they live some way from the front, so may not have been affected, but to my knowledge they usually get to gigs by rail.

it is my impression that Chris Smith did not cut the EA budget, rather it is the work of George O ..... - Chris Smith spent the budget but clearly not on the Somerset Levels but likely on highly populated urban areas at risk from flooding that did not flood last time round .... no one expects the Spanish Inquisition eh ....
