Well. It's 2.00 pm and we've had nothing more than a stormy day, so it begins to look like we'll be spared. I think. I hope.

We've had it. On Saturday it starts to get colder, and that is likely to last for some time (if I've got this right), with winds coming around from the south-east or east bringing much colder continential polar air.

Edith: Brummie Simon says the cold weather will last until mid-week, but another lot's expected as predicted at the end of the month/start of Feb.

Terrible weather here right now - showers coming up thick and fast from the south. That may have been lightning just then; anyway, it's more than probable from one of these big cumulonimbuses, or should that be cumulonimbi? The clouds loom up in rapid succession, sub-illuminated gratis by courtesy of London's light pollution suppliers!

Bit of a break for Mrs Bbm then ...hope she kicks her shoes off, gets the girls round and has a great weekend too!

By the way Bbm, there's a famous defamation case brought by a brewer about allegations that his beer was watered down... Have a care, Sir! it was back in the 1930s but still... Just sayin' ...

THE MAN THAT WATERS THE WORKERS BEER

Now I'm the man, the very fat man,
                    That waters the workers' beer,
Yes I'm the man, the very fat man,
                    That waters the workers' beer,
And what do I care if it makes them
                    ill,
If it makes them terribly queer,
I've a car and a yacht and an
                    aeroplane,
And I waters the workers' beer.
Now when I makes the workers' beer,
                    I puts in strychinine,
Some methylated spirits and a drop of
                    paraffin,
But, since a brew so terribly strong
                    Might make them terribly queer,
I reaches my hand for the water tap,
And I waters the workers' beer.
Now a drop of good beer is good for a
                    man
Who's thirsty and tired and hot,
And I sometimes has a drop for myself
                    From a very special lot;
But a fat and healthy working class
Is the thing that I most fear,
So I reaches my hand for the water tap
And I waters the workers' beer.

                    Now ladies fair beyond compare,
And be it maid or wife,
O sometimes lend a thought for one
                    Who leads a wandering life,
The water rates are shockingly high,
                    And meths is shockingly dear,
And there isn't the profit there used
                    to be
                    In watering the workers' beer.

Back on topic, it looks as if this week is going to be relatively "normal" by British January standards, with westerly winds predominating, but not too strongly, and frontal systems crossing the country, interspersed with brief calmer days and nights, when fog and the possibility of frost are on the cards. So much, then, for the colder weather predicted by Brummie Simon, in whom I had put all my faith . I don't think that the "experts" really understand what's going on, with so many unusual variables in the overall pattern at the moment.

Canada and the eastern States of America are in for another arctic plunge this week, for sure - poor dears!

Did anyone see today's "explanation" of Britain's weather on BBC1's Country File this evening? Treated like we're children is my only explanation for the presentation.

Be fair, S_A. it was mainly an opportunity for Julia Bradbury to flirt with the weatherman.
