Beautiful frosty, sunny morning in London after last night's fog, vestiges of which still drifting slowly upwards from back gardens. You always know when it's coming: breathe and be surrounded by water vapour!

The sun is out now with just a dusting of snow on the ground. Colder temps are on the way with nightime reaching down into the teens F. So far so good. No need to get out the snow shovel for this one.

Brrr marthe! It'll probably reach us eventually, though by a different route. For the time being it's expected to be mild round these parts.

Another foggy morning in NW2. Yesterday the fog had burned off by midday when I emerged blinking from a routine visit at the glaucoma clinic (fine thanks, thank you for asking ) but there doesn't seem to be much prospect of a repeat today. Still chilly though the forecasters say it's mild.

Later: just an hour later, here comes the sun, there goes the fog/mist. How wrong can I be?

It was raining here first thing this morning. It's now grey and dreich, but the temp is an unseasonal 10Âş C.

(Scottish fatalistic note: "We'll pay for this! It'll be -20Âş next week!")

CHRISTMAS will be ruined for tens of millions of people as the worst winter storms in recorded HISTORY rip through Britain, forecasters warned today.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Shurely a "Christmas from HELL" will be extremely hot and dry.

Both the Daily Express and the Met Office lost all credibility after the fuss they made about the "Great Storm" in the South-
                          East in late October.

...but that would have meant the Daily Express getting something right.

Sunny but cold (around freezing) this noon. It's quite calm at the moment but we're supposed to get a bit of wind over the weekend (30 mph or so) as well as snow, sleet and other joys of the season.
