I wonder if this afternoon's BBCSSO concert will go ahead? it's due to be broadcast live, but the last time we had weather like this a couple of years ago they cancelled an evening concert (Bluebeard's Castle, which I was looking forward to, & they haven't rescheduled it)

Wheelie bins strewn across the road in this fragment of the Pennines this morning. "I wish the binmen'd put them back as tidily as we put them out" grumbled a cross fhg as he ventured out into the wilds to bring them in - but they were still full: 'twas the wind that had scattered them.Numquam Satis!

windy and sunny in the middle kingdom - the sky at sunset last night was one of the most magical i have seen .... Venus and a whisper of a New Moon in a sun tinged blueness the moon visible in perfect three dimensional clarity ... truly awesomeLast edited by aka Calum Da Jazbo; 05-12-13, 11:51.According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

At 07:15 the sky was part-grey, part-blue with extraordinarily pink clouds (say nothing ).
Now the clouds and grey and white and scudding past eastwards at quite a rate, with sunshine filtering through. Quite blustery at ground level but not that cold.

From what I've gathered it's certainly been rough in Scotland (and all trains cancelled!) but any sign of the promised? The storm surge is worrying and it seems that apart from the East Coast some places in Flintshire have also been evacuated because of expected high tide/surge, This morning here it could be described as bracing - or the sort of weather than blows cobwebs away in two minutes, but wind has calmed down now and sky clearing.

Yes, there were no trains in Scotland for a time this morning. The Tay Road Bridge (85 mph gusts had been reported) re-opened at 11 am, and the sun came out for a bit. We had a heavy snowfall for 45 mins around lunchtime, and it got very cold - 0º C at 3.30 this afternoon, and no warmer now.
Looking at the news reports other parts of Scotland had it much worse, and the situation looks grim for the east of England this evening.
