A rather muggy day today, which the weather people thought it were going top be rather wet!

But, mangerton, you're alright - Alex Salmond says once Scotland attains independence your energy bllls will decrease by 5% per year .... (not properly read that yet, seems he had a bit of an Ed Milliband moment?)

I cannot at the mo look to change, having just had an A rated gas boiler installed in place of a 30 year old Zero rated one, so, as I don't know how many therms I may be consuming - at least until the Winter is out - I don't think a fixed price is the way as this new system may be deap cheap and a fixed price not. My annual energy bills (gas & elec) were, historically, around £750 a year I think before the old boiler packed in. I sure know my income has not risen by 8.2% pa.!!!

Yes, I know, but as David said, put not your trust in princes, or even Salmonds, with whom I have much sympathy!

It was such a warm night, didn't get below 14° so had windows open, lovely sunshine this morning, 17.4° now, but suddenly gone black as pitch and started to rain very heavily, so dark I've had to put the light on. Guess it's set in for the day

Re the November snow forecast in the Express - was talking to a woman this morning whose daughter lives in Brynmawr (for those who don't know Brynmawr is above the snowline!) There is a very large Asda there, where her daughter works, although she lives in Blaenavon. The management called a meeting about the forecast and drew up a contingency plan .... who had 4x4 to ferry people in and out from Blaenavon etc. - just goes to show how rogue forecasters can cause panic! I reassured her there would not be a snow emergency (now I just hope I'm right!)

Edit: My sister has been on the phone - she has mumps!!

OT, I went shopping this morning and returned home around 10.30. The rain started shortly afterwards, and persisted for several hours. It has now ceased, but it's still damp and horrible out there.

Somehow I doubt that a weather forecast in the Daily Express is any more reliable than anything else they print . Indeed, I am surprised they haven't linked the snow forecast to the death of Diana .

It is not a newspaper but a club magazine for the irrational .

She said to him "Does your Mother know you are out this late and you have just advised me to take an overdose?"
He (evidently) replied - Oh come on!! An overdose will take only two weeks out of your life!

I echo that. I'm rattling with all the tablets I take. In the last day or so I've stopped taking Co-dydramol which seemed to make my spinal pains worse.

I shall keep the tablets but go back to Paracetamol and Aspirin, which I can tolerate.

Why if things can still be done so efficiently in this district can't they be elsewhere, I wonder to myself? Are we being overfunded??

The predicted showers really appear to have gone to Town here first thing this morning, with a line of large yellow patches traversing NE indicating tropical-style downpours at 6 am, when I was still asleep; at 8 it was still dark enough to need the lights on. Pleasant now with a SSW breeze, pretty good viz, temperature 15 C, but signs of showers to come looming in the SW, so no washing on the line this week!

It looks likely to be pretty wet for most of the week to come, saly, but still on the warm side for late October, and winds aren't predicted to be particularly high in our part of the world.

Just looking at the BBC web news, it seems Hayling Island (Hampshire) has been hit by a tornado this morning - 100 homes damaged, plus cars, trees, etc., and central Cardiff hit yesterday pm by torrential rain resulting in flash flooding and stores having to be evacuated. Here, this morning was ok and over 16° but just now - the Heavens have opened and I can see the road is already halfway flooded.
