I have done the journey to Mallaig quite a few times - it's a great day out. As Anna said, there's that viaduct at Glenfinnan. I don't know about "most isolated", but there are certainly some good pubs in Mallaig, bbm, and there's also a fish and chip shop (almost) on a par with that one in Anstruther. When you get to Mallaig on the steam train, there's plenty of time for a look at the harbour (prawns, and the Skye ferry in the summer), a pint, and fish and chips.
Edit: Bbm, the penny has dropped. I think you're referring to the Old Forge at Inverie on the Knoydart peninsula. It is only 7 miles from Mallaig - by ferry. Otherwise it's a very long walk. I have never been, but Miss m was there a few years ago while on a yachting trip with some colleagues, and a Fine Time was had by all.
