much better in the SE and Kent today. Actually a nice breeze to temper the sun but air feels fresher.

Certainly much fresher, particularly this morning, and just under 22° at the moment. Last night got very grey and cloudy, almost looked rainy and I think thunderstorms likely on Saturday.
I am really happy today, I decided I needed new curtains and decided on white (not bright white, a soft shade - sort of pearl/ivory?) Had finally given up and resigned myself to something like unbleached linen and - Lo and Behold - walked into the Red Cross Shop and there they were - the perfect ones, 90" x 72", fully lined, beautifully soft material, and only £8.50, so I bought them, also some jolly turquoise and white striped cotton, unlined ones for another room, only £3.50, nice and summery. PLUS a pair of M&S linen casual trousers for £4.50 and their last pair of espadrilles in my size for £1.99 (who wears espadrilles nowadays? I do!) So, a fruitful day and tonight will be spent cleaning and polishing track, windows and ledge and hanging them. (Sorry for being so offtopic but I'm absolutely thrilled)

Yes saly, I was resigned to sticking with what I had or spending at least £100 on ready-mades (no chance of affording made to measures) I'm chuffed with the trousers as well - they're a light cream colour.

Ooh, get you! - I can hear people saying. Wait a minute though, because today I cycled nearly 30 miles, stopping off at The Spaniards on Hampstead Heath for a quick refreshing half of some German lager. No lunch - they only serve food for carnivores, and the least expensive course is around a tenner! Just the right kind of weather for it, as the temperature can't have exceeded 21 C by much, even in the centre of town.

[QUOTE=Serial_Apologist;311649]This reminds me it's high time I got my William Morris-patterned curtains cleaned.

A fine summer's day here once again. Long may it continue!
One complaint I always have in weather like this is that the gents in the office are expected to wear ties (even if not customer facing) while the ladies can get away with pretty well anything. Some of them dress as if going to a party. I like ties (I have a large collection) but I do feel that being strangulated on a day like today is a bit on the uncomfortable side. I did go without the tie on Monday afternoon but was made to feel as if I'd forgotten my trousers instead so abandoned the experiment."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

And throughout July and August the whole office is 'dress-down' (save again for meetings, where appropriate) - sort of 'smart-casual' i.e. collared shirts or blouses inc polo shirts, but smart jeans are permitted, for example, or lighter trousers. The only sexual discrimination is that blokes can't wear shorts (a mercy, if you ask me!)"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I seem to remember a while back there was a discimination case or such whereby someone took their employer to a tribunal, having been forced to wear a tie,and won his case?
