This is like being on holiday somewhere in the Med., knowing everyday when you wake up it'll be blue skies and non-stop sunshine - and after about five days people will start complaining and searching for clouds .....

Yesterday at 25.9° not as hot as Sunday and a nice cooling breeze, today at the moment it's 23° with a breeze. According to the BBC we will continue like this until the 19th, I wonder how long it has been since we've had such a lengthy spell of settled weather at this time of year and if any predictions go beyond the 19th?

Last night I sat out quite late watching the stars, bats and moths - it seems ages since I've been able to do that, bare armed and bare legged, in comfort. (Fleeces and Berghaus have finally been put away!)

Well Anna, in the short term, in this part of the world we're looking to a minor breakdown in warmth and sunshine levels tomorrow, and the possibility of thundery showers on Saturday and again Tuesday, one week today, but where you are you should be all right. Brummie Simon's last longterm forecast of 2 days ago predicted generally settled weather until the 19th, as you say. The last time we enjoyed a prolonged spell of Azores High weather in midsummer was 2006.

I note that they've had a really severe thunderstorm in Toronto last night - 3.9" rain, more than double their record for one day in that city. (Hey, that's normal here nowadays!)

Another scorcher today in Newton Heath,nothing better than being stuck in an office on days like this.

23ºC across the water at Leuchars today, and very much the same here. Much warmer outside than in when I left the office at 4.30, and that's the first time this year I've noticed that. 28.7ºC at Strathallan in Perthshire which will be very good for the soft fruit.

It was exactly like that for every day for 3 months (June to September) in 1976 but of course you are too young to remember that! That was without doubt the summer of the century and one I will never forget in a million years. Other summers that ran it close were 1984 and 1995 in my memory.

Same here, I'm afraid to say. I go for a stroll at lunchtime but the area roundabout is, not to put too fine a point on it, a dump. There's a path that runs by the river but it's populated by cyclists, joggers and dog's mess. A wasteland on the edge of a business park behind the football stadium. Dreadful.

I went down by train to Bexhill yesterday, and we had a light lunch of gazpacho in the de la Warr Pavilion. The sky was blue, the sea a darker blue, and the architecture was gleaming white. It made you feel that you were sitting inside one of those wonderful 1930s railway posters!

This era certainly has similarities with the Thirties. I find this somewhat sinister.

But the posters and the music are a compensation,perhaps.

Nice id ea Ferret. Dave2002 has started a thread on air quality - notmuch quality about the air here atm. Shopkeepers from Ceylon and elsewhere agree that it's not good and they would prefer the
ir rainy season. Well, I won't go thatfar but it's muggy already.

Something of a shock to the system after the past few days but it's been dull and overcast here and quite a bit cooler. Apparently, temps are due to rise again into the weekend.

Off to the Proms on Monday so hope the heatwave continues!
