I see in today's Telegraph that the forecast contradicts Brummie Simon's one. "The unsettled weather is expected to last the whole month due to the jet stream. The channel of winds, that blow from west to east across the Atlantic, is further south than normal. This means that wet, windy weather that is usually confined to northern Scotland is blowing across the whole country.

Dan Williams, a forecaster with the Met Office, said the weather jet stream is not as far south as last summer and there is less moisture in the air so the rain will not be as heavy as summer 2012. However showers will continue across the whole country for the next four weeks as it looks like the jet stream will stay south.

Today's forecast of heavy, persistent rain was totally wrong. It's been cloudy, windy, but muggily warm and rain only started about 3pm, medium heavy for a short while. Perhaps the Met forecast via the bladder-wrack hanging outside their back door?
Anna - the bulk of the rain is passing to the south and east of you and should be out of the way by 8 pm. Looks like we're all in for a pretty windy day tomorrow, and a complete washout on Sunday.

Brummie Simon's still sticking to his heatwave promise, while admitting making predictions to be a meteorologist's nightmare!

Thanks Anna, the little gem was misnamed. I had a chicken and gem sarnie at lunchtime - it was like chewing carpet. Back to iceberg next time.

On topic, murky, drizzling, autumnal, very depressing, what's new weather-wise ?

A complete washout on Sunday!!! Is that the best you can do for me? I'll be in the deep south by then, and hoping for some sun - or at least some dry.

It was raining here this morning, but it's been sunny - though windy - since lunchtime. Temp a balmy 18°C.

Windy's all I can say - best not for carrying open umbrellas past all those tall buildings!

Same here. Difficult weather to dress for, nay, a veritable sartorial nighmare. I opted for safari fatigues and a pith helmet, comme d'hab.

Pouring with rain here since about 7pm but not particularly chilly. A reasonable day orherwise. Brummie Simon is a brave man for sticking to his heatwave prediction. Get this one wrong and his reputation will take a tumble.

I'm glad we seemed to have beautiful summers when I was young.

Some of us don't have any/many summers left. Today is abysmal here.

Well, "springeth the wood anew" in any case, sunshine or not, and it is a most exquisite green.

Hope of brighter period in the offing?

Looks lovely from indoors but still that awful wind blowing as I crossed a little park to the local shops.
Will it ever stop blowing a gale,it's even bringing leaves down now.?.
