Yes indeed. I must look into these leafy ideas, as being of the single persuasion too I have difficulty in eating a whole Iceberg before it goes off, even though, as S_A points out, they are now smaller.* As amsy points out, supermarkets are a dead loss for single people. I saw one pepper for 80p, two for £1 last week in Tesco. Why don't they have similar offers with non-perishable items - like gin?

OT, dry here again but the sun has not been seen all day, and it's a coolish 14°.

    * I believe this is an effect of global warming; they're melting.

They did get larger last year as the season progressed, so I guess that supports the theory, mangerton!

I do urge fellow stormy weatherites to click on Brummie Simon's link: he's predicting a likely heatwave coming around the 20th, maybe lasting until the 10th of July!

You'll get his forecast for the next few days, then it's for further ahead: click on the box on the left of the link page - the largest "box", with all the bright pinks and oranges on the page:

The temps are still quite below average.

Interestingly enough, sea temperatures around our coasts are apparently 1.5 to 2 degs C below average, possibly reflecting the fact that the Baltic (from which our winds have been coming for most of the spring, as I don't need to tell you all!) has been exceptionally cold, with last week's sea temperatures off the Finnish coast 3.5 to 4 degs C below their normals for this time of year.

I'm not so sure about this, but it could also be the case that the longterm effect of increased meltwater from the Arctic infiltrating the N Atlantic is also having the effect of lowering seawater temperatures in general.

Anyway, you're right about more rain being expected for England this week than for quite some time.

we have had an ominous sky in the middle kingdom for two days now, but today i learn we are one of the most favoured regions when it comes to premature death rates! ... unlike the gloomy wet north west ....
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.
