That's very broad-minded of your family, Anna but I'm sure it was a visit they'll never forget

No I haven't actually, Anna. For one thing, unlike Simon I'm not qualified; and there again he has all that equipment, whereas all I have is an indoor barometer, a max-min thermometer on the sill of this N-facing window, a view extending as far as Hampstead Heath, 12 miles away, and a reasonable pair of eyes. I think it is possible to acquire a general feel for the weather, sort of combining observation, cloud knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with parasiting off official weather sites, but that's not the same thing as credibility.

Well, I trust you. There's a start. And, if you started a blog then I'd read it. Food for thought perhaps? Although how one starts one I have no idea.

Ooh, there's Posh!! I serve mine topped with gremolata. No oyster sauce or red wine in mine but a rich beef stock and the juice of an orange (it's a Gordon Ramsay tip, you cannot taste it but it tenderises the shin) and of course, there is celery in it!! Plus usual carrots, shallots and leeks. Like you, the smells wafted are driving the appetite and senses to distraction!

                Nooooo!!

Simpler pleasures at Château Caliban, which will shortly be filled with the aroma of baking bread. Dough currently 75% risen

Some top quality beurre d'Isigny awaits.

No poncing around with "gremolata" here in the metrollopes!

Caliban - are you seriously telling us you are baking bread? And bread and butter will be your Saturday night dinner? No jam or Marmite? Just bread and butter?
No Tescos Finest Paella, No Chinese take away with sesame toast and spare ribs?
Have you turned into the lad in't Hovis advert?

No, there is an ulterior motive in you suddendly becoming domesticated when you never cook anything from one week to the next, and wearing a pinny to wipe your floury hands on is, quite honestly, totally out of character - you are out to impress, you have a hot date - OR .... OMG just twigged, you are on next week's Edition of Master Chef and this is just to warn us!!!
(Well if you are on it you couldn't do worse than some of the poor dabs featured this week!)

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night!" is from All About Eve, one of my fave old movies. However, I meant to watch the Wales v England match again and find I have to do so now, before it disappears from iplayer shortly, so the gremolata and casserole is on hold whilst I sing Hymns and Ariias ............
But, Caliban, what has brought on a passion for yeast and baking? Are you modelling yourself on Paul Hollywood - are you the new Silver Fox of yeast?

I thought the 'silver fox' thing would come up!!

Why, fancy a spot of .... fox hunting?

(It was Michel Roux Jr. who inspired it, as a matter of fact...)
