It's still March 1st here in Newport, so I'm wishing Anna, and anyone else who celebrates the day, a happy St David's Day. My dear husband has been in hospital for the past few days so I've been a bit preoccupied. I was reminded of the day by a letter about St. David's Day in today's local paper.
The wrong time of day to contact you marthe but do sincerely wish you and HH all the best. I'm still almost voiceless and hope it soon turns into an ordinary cold and not another strange afflication.
Yes, belated St David's Day greetings to Anna. I had leek soup in honour of the occasion.
Commiserations to all who are being brought low with the divers diseases referred to above. Whisky (or whiskey on marthe's side of the pond) is an excellent remedy for most things.
OT, it's another lovely sunny day here, and it didn't freeze last night.
Following your earlier suggestion, I put aside the pharmacist Linctus and the paracetemols and had a large Tallisker last night. Slept undisturbed for 9 hours for the first time in three weeks and woke feeling much better than I have done in a long time! Tallisker on the NHS?

Ooh; I love Penderyn - the pilot light bursting into life with the first sip (one swallow doth a Summer make!) then a gentle reassurance that all things are well and all manner of things shall be well; and that lovely almond-y aftertaste. Welsh Gold, indeed!

Glad you enjoy it alongside all the glorious products from Scotland ferney. I'm pondering buying a bottle for a friend who is getting married for the second time - do you have a particular favourite 'style' of Penderyn? I've only managed to try the sherry wood version which is delicious but fuether input would be helpful

The Sherrywood and the Madeira (not the Red Flag, the name appeals, but I've never seen it) are the two I know - both splendid, the latter a little "sourer" (in the best way) than the former if fond memory serves. Never tried the "Peated": the word puts me off - it sounds artificial. I was in a Whisky shop in Peebles a couple of years ago, and was given a "smoked" sample to try: very pleasant on the tongue, but leaving a nasty aftertaste for the rest of the day. They've also byggered around with Jura - a perfectly sound, pleasant single malt to which they've added unnecessary "peats" and "smokes" which just don't do it for me.
And 8ob - you may call it a "rut": I prefer to think of it as my "express route"! (I actually work not too far from the Wright Whisky Co in Skipton - can you imagine!!)

....goodness that's quite a dangerous junction to be on....with Stainforths pork pies....that rather posh Wine Shop....and the best Bakers in Skipton....and all those Cheese stalls in the Market just around the corner....

Many thanks for this gustatory info, ferney I've just checked out the Wine Society site and they have some rather splendid sounding whiskies (the Orkney one appeals to me) at a price less injurious to my pocket
Stock up your wine rack from the outstanding selection of top quality wines available now from the Wine Society. Exceptional prices with free delivery options.

Yes; and turn the corner onto Gargrave Road and you can get a three-piece suite, a kebab and a Tattoo as well!

Contrary to forecasted, the sun has emerged here this afternoon, and the temperature risen to 5.5 C. At this rate it'll soon be reaching the 9 C it should be in early March, but that's isn't expected to happen until Tuesday.
Just checking my records, the average (daytime maximum and nighttime minimum averaged) for the past 3 months here has been 3.2 C, which is 1.8 C below the mean. A weatherman stated yesterday that this winter had been a fairly normal one, with temperatures averaging 0.4 C below the mean across the country. Someone's obviously been nicking our warmth!
