Truly stormy weather headed our way with 2 feet of snow predicted by the time this nor'easter has blown through New England. The weather service has named this storm "Nemo." Folks who remember the great Blizzard of '78 (1978) are busy stocking up on supplies and hunkering down for the duration. Yours truly was in the green and pleasant land at the time and missed that epic storm.

Thanks, Anna. We've made our "bread and milk" run to the supermarket, stacked up firewood near the fireplaces, and are now hunkering down for the duration. I'm keeping fingers crossed that we don't lose power. I'm going down to the kitchen to make a big pot of chili and a banana-blueberry cake so that we'll have something comforting to eat later on. G. is heading out to make one last run to the package store (off-licence) for a bottle of wine. If the pub down the street is open later on, we'll bundle up, walk down the street, and go out for a pint. The snow is falling steadily now but the wind has not yet picked up. I'll keep you posted as things progress.

A window on the world, this thread - good luck, Marthe. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

marthe here checking in! The wind has picked up now that the storm is intensifying. G. has lit fires in all three fire places, comfort food, chocolate, and wine are at the ready. We're just keeping fingers crossed that the power stays on. Thank you all for your good wishes. I'll keep you posted.

We watch and wait....
Still no sign of S_A since 30th January .... But it seems the US snow storm has passed and the clearing up has begun.
Grey and rainy here, not cold, sorted out two bags for British Heart collection tomorrow, added sweet potato to and reheating remains of tagine for lunch, intend to get fed and watered before settling down to watch Ireland v England at 3.00, then finish reading yesterday's paper, start the jumbo crossword and then Brian Cox, lazy Sunday .... perfect!
