Rain overnight cleared up all but the most militant of the snow: clear roads, green hills, primroses flowering (must've been doing it under the snow!) and bright sunshine all day: reached 6.5°. Very windy, though.

Sunny but cold when I tottered to the local shops. Now looks like rain again. S-A will confirm but I think it is due to rain in this part for the rest of the week.

Sometimes just for me, sometimes for friend(s) I really enjoy cooking, it's never a chore. I suppose you could say it's a hobby, always been passionate about food. Weekends are when I can spend more time over it, weekdays it's usually something fairly quick and simple and often vegetarian. I seemed to have had a lot of spicy food during the snow so on Saturday I cooked a half-leg of lamb (boned and rolled) plus all the trimmings for a change.

Horrible day here, first thing dry but chill wind and light frost, now it's tipping it down and very strong SSW wind. River this morning had definitely dropped but Met Office yellow warning for tomorrow of torrential rain here.

Oh Lor Real rain or just light. Cyclable in a normal coat without getting soaked?

Full clobber today and tomorrow, to be on the safe side, Caliban. I wouldn't cycle myself as it's expected to get pretty windy, mind.

Simon sees it getting colder on Friday, but then returning to normal temperatures. What he didn't mention was that high pressure out to the west from Sunday on will weaken any fronts crossing the UK, giving flooded areas a chance to dry out, but he seems to think cold weather could be back somewhere around Feb 10. Not quite as cold as last week though, mercifully.

According to my online forecast we are two degrees colder and windier that Central London. Wind 23now, whistling down chimney. Friday wettest here it says. Blast, no coz from Hampshire again.

Anna, your cooking sounds lovely. I can't get half of those ingredients here- nice meat but frozen veg which are tasteless.

BBM, have you got that right? 80mph winds are, I think, classed as Hurricane on the Beauford Scale!!

Saly, I am lucky where I live in having a wonderful greengrocer, 2 butchers, plus choice of three supermarkets. Unfortunately supermarkets have killed off too many local greengrocers, you're lucky still to have your butcher.

Cali - I think you'd better put the chaffeur on alert for a couple of days ...

This was what my wife mentioned to me from The Daily Express, which has a proven track record fpor the weather. Apperantly it was for yesterday!

It didn't half blow up here yesterday evening. Just been out and with another tenant reconstructed and reinforced part of the perimeter fence, where a couple of panels got blown to the side, (and they're not light!), and re-strung three washing lines. Has anyone else experienced damage? Just hoping the forecast, similar to yersdays, doesn't necessitate a repeat performance tomorrow.

Odd spits and spots around today - temperature 12.5 C is the highest since November 20th.
