After a dismal start, we've now got brilliant sunshine here in the Brent/Camden borders.

All the trains seem to be running, the sparrers have discovered my fat balls (not the brightest of birds I practically had to supply GPS co-ordinates for the little perishers ) and my evergreens are dripping and thawing nicely.

Let's hope that we have a total thaw before the sun goes down in under an hour's time or my trudge up the hill later for an UnBurns Night dinner will be treacherous in the slippy-slidy vein.

... pleasant sunshine in Shepherd's Bush, quite a bit of snow on the side streets and in the gardens. I'm laid up with an unpleasant sore throat, but Mme V has cycled off to whatever it is that she does that pays for the upkeep of this place. Time for me to prepare tea and biccies against her return...

A slight thaw here - about 6 inches of snow down to perhaps 3 or 4. Afraid it will freeze again tonight and the ice will be treacherous.

an overcast foggy slow thaw today in the middle kingdom but -5C is firm forecast tonight ...

I had correspondence with them during the 2010 snow and they merely said they would put it to Committee ..... the bus evidently did try to get up there this morning but had to reverse back down again to the main road. Popping into supermarket lunchtime there is practically nil stock of green vegs (I bought the last January King!) It seems another band of snow will hit S. Wales in the early hours.
How is everyone else getting on?
Seems I was more accurate for your neck of the woods than here in my original prediction then, Anna!

Plenty of sunshine here as Ams has described, but shade temperature hasn't exceeded zero, so the short-lived mini-avalanche this morning from the trees on the garden side never reached around the back, which remains an untouched winter wonderland.

Interesting how a snowy landscape benefits certain colours but not others. In the first case I'm thinking berries, and complexions of all ethnicities; in the latter anything not snow that is supposedly white, including my coat with its hoody.

And my net curtains on the big kitchen window definitely need a wash.

It's been snowing lightly all day here, but it's not lying as it's not particularly cold. It's probably a different story on the higher ground. High winds on Forth and Tay bridges.

None in NE London either, but guess what? The schools closed early for health and safety reasons!!!

How did this country get through the Blitz?

P.S. The school children could be found breaking their limbs sledging in the local hilly park.

Spokesman was on R4 saying "what if someone slipped (either teacher or pupil) and broke a limb", it would be the current compensation litigation that prevents schools opening in snow, your child falls over, you blame someone, grab thousands, never mind that said child has been toboganning down dangerous slopes all over the weekend without any supervision

I'd just like to wish all fellow Stormy Weatherites a warm and peaceful night, and hope that everyone manages to get out of bed on the right side tomorrow.

S_A, the Met Office promises one thing, the latest BBC forecasts another! Either snow or nothing. If I knew what I was waking up to tomorrow I'd be a lot happier!
Actually, waking up usual 6.30am tomorrow, brekkie will be bacon, eggs, toast and marmalade, after that I will gird my loins, put on my woolly hat, and set forth and face whatever the day may bring with a Very Stern Paddington Bear Look at the weather!
