Will do my best sals. Glad you can have the old heating pumped up! Did you manage to get to grips with my PM, talking of cycling?

Snowing slightly earlier but I bravely crossed the park to my organic butcher, where I
bought more braising steak, home made pasty and beef and beer pie, which would feed several people.

I shall now leave everything and have a snoozle, nap or kip as various MB friends put it. Mahlerei says Sky loves this weather and if there is much snow she will be in doggie heaven.

Yes, one of these appeared on our intranet yesterday, which caused great hilarity/consternation, depending on your pov.

Absolutely no sign yet of snow of any hue here.

That all sounds delicious. If you're issuing invitations, please include me in. Seriously, I hope you're OK and won't have to venture out for a bit. Winter weather is no fun. Keep warm!

For those asking me about going out tomorrow, don't do either, I'd suggest...

I am right in the centre of the Met Office Red Warning blob! It says "Many parts of the Red Warning area are likely to have 20-30 cm of snow with strong southeasterly winds causing blizzards, severe drifting of lying snow and thus severe disruption" One of the weather announcers has evidently said that it will be worse than the December 2010 snow event. We didn't get a red warning for that but I'm guessing , having seen that more snow will arrive on Monday, he maybe meant that in 2010 the snow came and every few days there was fresh snow falling on the old so the whole snow scene went on for about three weeks. Noticeably warmer than yesterday at 4° but quite foggy. If anyone is thinking of venturing forth to the supermarket for bread, spuds or green veg .... forget it, the shelves are bare!

Saly's butcher's beef and beer pie sounds good (and guaranteed no horse included!) A good pie is a gladsome thing.

Thanks mangerton, you are welcome, expecially as my visitor can't make it. Plenty for all. No I'm staying in and hope next door neighour can get me some more milk when needed. Powdered milk is the thing I forgot to get.

That fog is due to the above-freezing point temperature air flowing over below-freezing ground temperatures, Anna, causing the ground to "steam" - as often happens when a thaw takes place. It is known as "advection fog". A simple small-scale demonstration of this is water vapour rising from ice cream once it is removed from the freezer.

Then thank heavens I visited the supermarket yesterday! (Though tomorrow should prove interesting )

Advection Fog! Another new word to add to my vocabulary, along with Katabatic Flow! Thank you so much S_A, my knowledge of meteorology increases apace thanks to you.

Saly, I did wonder, if it comes to worst case scenario and I am likely to get snowed in, should I buy some long-life milk, but I forgot and I don't mind my tea or coffee black and can make my porridge the Scottish way - with water!

I am very well stocked with dried and tinned goods, fresh vegs, cheese, eggs, bacon, and some lovely Welsh lamb destined for casserole or tagine and still have my Glenmorangie whisky for when the going gets tough!

I do hope everyone here stays safe and warm and those with digi cameras keep them charged and post Winter Wonderland scenes on here!!

It's very like the Association Fog often to be found at low levels on the AA thread, caused when a strong current of hot intellect flows over chilled-out, disconnected synapses, causing the brain to steam...

OMG, OMG, Cali. I looked in, I thought, obviously it's some Chinese bloke!! If I had followed my feminine instinct I would be home and dry. But I didn't. So I'm not! Forever on the sidelines, she was watching with a wistful smile briefly glancing over her face, watching the big boys play .....

Big boys play - do you mean Tony Harrison's Trackers of Oxyrhyncus, Anna?

Brava, salymap - a sterling effort justly rewarded by a good snoozle

You'll be straining the buttons on your cardie if you eat all that pie by yourself - sounds wonderful - go for it
