I worry about fuel bills too. During this recent spell of weather I've had to keep the boiler on night and day, and although it's supposed to be more efficient than the old one the bills so far aren't very different - prices keep rising. I too am grateful for the allowance (for over-60s in my case) but it doesn't go far. My house is difficult to heat. I treat heating as a priority, but I feel there should be some sort of rebate for people who live alone. The heating costs just as much as if there are four people in the house, but there's only one pension/income.

Morning Mary and a Happy Christmas. I do agree. In fact four people would probably generate heat. It's the same with cooking and washing up. Just as many saucepans and dishes if one cooks a decent meal and no-one to help with them. But, we can get up, go to bed, watch, listen to what we like. I'm not going anywhere and don't want to. I've had three days of short visits already and hope to see family and friends over the weekend. Emails and phone calls are good too. Hope your driving isn't too bad for you. Best wishes from salymap

Happy Christmas to you, too! I have to admit I don't do the driving - my sons do. We drove 200 miles yesterday with elder son, and the only problem was frozen windscreen wipers, which he soon solved. I would quite happily stay at home, but they don't allow it - one day I may insist - and now I'm here (Bucks) it's quite nice - and it's not my heating!

salymap,
A little red cardinal alighted on our doorstep ~ within it's beak is your first draft of "Sally Takes the Tube to Music for Hire Library".
Happy Christmas my dear,

Morning Stormy Weatherites. A little birdie told me it was Christmas tomorrow... Been a fraught few weeks, so not sure if I'm ready for it. Sigh.

On Wed, I drove to the west coast to collect mother for Christmas. Stayed overnight, came back with her yesterday and took her to my daughter's flat. Got back home to find frozen pipes, and no prospect of an immediate fix. It is indeed fortunate that daughter is only half a mile away, and that I'll be there this evening and for Christmas.
It was amazingly beautiful driving across central Scotland in the bright sunshine - but it was bitterly cold. Keep warm, especially the more senior amongst us. I'll get my first heating allowance next year - unless the toerags cut it by then, of course - and I'm looking forward to it.
King's in three hours, meanwhile it's Praetorius from McCreesh, and La Nativité du Seigneur played by Gillian Weir.
Merry Christmas to all.

Good choice of music. Think I'll put on the Messiaen as well (Simon Preston on the organ of Westminster Cathedral).

Long may our friendship continue.
Happy Christmas to you all.

Yesterday it was only Euda and myself, today Sigolene. Wish I could stay in bed longer but mornings are the best time of day.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS to all Stormyweatherites, past and present. Let's hope the worst of this awful weather is over, for the time being at least. Enjoy your family, music, TV, whatever, we are lucky to have such choices.

Good morning salymap and a very happy Christmas to you. Indeed we are very lucky to have such choices which we tend to take it for granted. The weather looks somewhat better at least for us down in Kent. I fed the birds and the squirrel (I have two at the moment but have not yet found out their relationship) for the first thing in the morning.
Keep warm and fill the house with lots of wonderful music.

All good wishes to Stormy Weatherites on this Christmas morn. Specially warm wishes to sal, without whom this thread would not be possible :)

Yes, ice aplenty, along with mini-mountain-ranges of shovelled snow on some pavements. One has to step into the road to avoid those.
