Very best of luck with the move. Take it as easy as you can, and have some standing by..."...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

"Enjoying" a typical nor'easter yesterday and today. Fortunately we're not getting snow and and ice here, just high winds...again. BBM best wishes for your move!

Thanks, saly and S_A. The worst of the wind is over, though it's still blowing a bit. Nor'easters are pretty typical for this time of year but this one is a double-whammy after the late, unlamented Sandy. We're lucky that we didn't get snow. Triple whammy is that our furnace isn't working at the moment. Furnace man is coming tomorrow to see why said furnace won't go into heating mode. Meanwhile we've got plug-in radiators placed around the house. They gobble up electricity but the cats enjoy curling up next to them. saly, our spell of gloomy weather should be ending tomorrow. The sun will be shining! Please give my best wishes to Mahlerei, Sky, and the buns. Mahlerei's pets must have their nice winter coats by now. Best wishes, marthe

I hope BBM remembered NOT to pack the kettle, mugs, milk and teabags but put them in the car because the first thing the removal men want at the new place is - a cuppa tea before they will even consider unloading!
Barometer at weather station dropping like a stone, it's saying 1001.4, temp 10.8° and looking increasingly rainy. Question: how many people own their own barometer and is it a fun thing to have? Just wondering if I might get one.
Promised a friend to go to local Catholic Christmas Bazaar tomorrow .... hoping they might have some nice cakes or marmalade (I can guarantee they won't have any Scottish Tablet!)

Still sunny intervals with odd bits of drizzle here ahead of that cold front, so, as I'm heading off to the South Bank to sample some of the London Jazz Festival this evening, I hope it holds for the cycle home!

:
Or, if you're feeling flush - get a barograph - the ones with a rotating drum with graph paper attached on to which an inked needle records the barometric pressure over time. They're really nice things to have...

Anna, you should definitely get a barometer. Mine says 995 mb at the moment, and it also has a thermometer and a hygrometer. My barometer, and a Galilean thermometer, were a birthday present from miss mangerton a few years ago.
As vinteuil says, a barograph is a Good Thing too. There was one at school, and I was one of those responsible for changing the chart and winding it up every Sunday. It's on my shopping list for when I become a millionaire, as indeed is a mercury barometer.
