Morning Sal! Tonight was very mild and pleasant...in the 50s and drizzly, but somehow, it felt much warmer. (Maybe it was the home-made vanilla buttercream heating me from the inside, ha!) I had a wonderful walk in the moonlight in my boots and quilted riding jacket...didn't even need a hat. Oh well, I'll be in London freezing right along with the rest of you soon enough.

If you have trouble writing Christmas cards due to bad sight, wrist weakness, [me] laziness [you?]I have worked out the following plan.
Buy several different cards, all the same size.
Find address book and pen.
Write envelopes only.
Later, when recovered from that, write messages, post and send.

It saves scrabbling from one thing to another. Or do you love writing them yourself?

I'm afraid I'm something of a Christmas card curmudgeon, or maybe I'm just a curmudgeon. Full stop!

Most frustrating are the cards that turn up from someone you've not seen in years whom you'd quite like to be in touch again, usually with a message along the lines of, '... haven't heard from you in ages,' but do they think to put their address in the card?!

Morning SHB, not cycling today I hope. Very misty here. I have a job to remember one old friend's husband's first name. Friend married late in life and two years ago I thought I'd got it right. She didn't send a card last year ??? bws saly

I get around the chore of buying/writing/addressing/sending Christmas cards by making them New Year cards so I have a little extra time

I print the addresses from my database on to self-adhesive labels. Saves a lot of time, and with my appalling hand-writing, it probably saves the Royal Mail a lot of time too.

Tonight, I went for a walk after dinner...a friend and I hiked all the way down to 29th Street from the Brooks Brothers store by Grand Central. It had just started to snow and mist over, and I was cursing myself for wearing a light jacket and not bringing a hat. Rather than stay crabby, I looked up and got this shot. Pretty, isn't it?

Morning Stormy weatherites, If it ain't one thing it's another! Just sorted out some new files for photos so getting there slowly. BUT, yesterday and today emails are very iffy. Okay in the night which makes me think that it's Windows or BT emails problem and not mine. Snow on the line or wrong kind of leaves possibly. Train commuters will know what I mean! Morning Salymap and all. Still feeling a bit smug about my non-Windows non-BT email service which so far works really well and reliably on this tiny netbook, now two years old.

Heard some positively celestial carol-singing outside the Festival Hall on Sunday afternoon - music students, perhaps? Anyway they asked for requests and I picked "It came upon the midnight clear" which they told me they hadn't practised... it was brilliant, all parts clear and a stunning descant to the final verse. Well worth the contribution.

It's a great picture,I agree. I'm pretty sure it's the Empire State. I was fortunate enough to take a trip up it a few years ago.

Tried twice to post a GOOD EVENING.. .. and have lost power both times!

The household is bedded down in balmy comfort of warmth here on the North Sea listening once again to today's In Tune. I am off to dive into my new comfy bed in my Hawai'ian moo-moo to celebrate our sun and warmth.

Yep...that's the one! They often illuminate it with differently-coloured lights...I think I just got lucky: I always like to keep my camera ready in case a wonderful shot comes along. Today, after a long meeting with a bunch of Indian investment bankers, I discreetly turned to the window and got this:




And as we were going across town in the morning, I looked up and got one of the Chrysler Building and Grand Central:

Nice shot of what I assume to be Mercury with winged helmet and caduceus. Looking upwards is clearly good policy...

I have memories of that station (I think) from when I lived in Great Neck as a very small child. How does one get there, anyway? My mother was being linguistical at the UN.

"Stop me and buy one" and Howdydoody are much clearer memories.
