I'm posting Lat's message somewhat against my better judgement, but on principle, if there is any criticism of me and the way the forum is run, I feel that should not be deleted.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      Thanks ff.

Lat1 has his pride, and it may well be that we won't be seeing anything more of him. I shall be sad if that is the case: always the gentleman, he was informed on the basis of having been at the coalface of government policy, always strove and sometimes managed to find meeting points between polarised positions on many subjects discussed here, including ones of general sensitivity, and often gave me cause to reconsider fondly held opinions, which has got to be a good thing - especially in my case!

      He'll be missed

        Hear, hear!

I often disagreed with Lats' posts, but they always contained perspectives that made me reconsider my own ideas and I was very sorry to read his posts across the Boards today.

I really hope Lat comes back...he offers a different perspective on lots of issues.
Hopefully the mods can pass these kind of sentiments on to him.
This board needs people who have something to say.....

Although a lot cooler than yesterday, today's temperatures are actually holding up well for mid-September: 19 C being the maximum daytime norm for London. Tomorrow's when we're all going to feel a difference. The headline warning severe winds later this week in the Daily Depress looks a bit exaggerated, to me.

That's a relief S_A - my neighbour's fence is rather wobbly & I had visions of its falling over while I'm on my hols

                        A traffic-stopping vision, no doubt!

Of course he may be in the 'mode', but he may quite possibly be wearing long trousers and brogues and be on his way to Chippenham....

Bad things happen in Chippenham so I avoid the place. I only have to look at the headlines in our local weekly paper, the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald.

Very cold earlier today but warming up for what may be the last day of summer weather apparently.Bestio
There was an proms interval talk - interview with a natural weather forecaster - last Tuesday. I caught part only, but some here may be interested to catch it on iPlayer.

Only 24 hours or so left, though, I guess.....

A lot of bloodshed in the Nell Gwyn Tea Rooms, perhaps?
