Ah’m no fur gaun oot wi thon wee puddock. Ma freens wud aa lauch at me’ Unfortunately it said it was Ulster Scottish <suddenly dives for cover> Don't blame me, it was a BBC website!
"Puddock" in Scots is of course a frog. (The reptile, not the other thing.)

This poem was - probably still is - often taught in Scottish schools.

And Anna, there's nothing wrong with the Ulster Scots! Having researched my family tree, and Scots history, I strongly suspect I'm from that stock, in view of events about 400 years ago.

It is hotter than at Rhode Island, which must be pretty unusual for August, marthe.
S_A, Rhode Island's not so hot right now so the Brazilians and Sri Lankans have nothing to worry about! We've had steady rain and cool temps all day (mid 60s F/teens C?). It's a preview of Autumn. Our hot weather seems to have found its way across the Atlantic.

I have just flown back over the Pond after a grandmotherly visitation and it feels very similar temperature-wise on both sides just now.

As in scene 1 of Macbeth when one of the witches says: "Paddock calls!"

Very sultry in the metrollopes today but completely overcast now, with a slight breath of cooler breeze - it feels as if a rainstorm is coming, although it's not forecast I think...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

High-base thunderstorms developing over the Home Counties as I write - totally unforecast by the guys with all the technology!

The cloud and any rain will help pin temperatures down to about what they are at present (28 C here), but the resultant effect of raising humidity levels will make conditions feel pretty unbearable - I'm staying in!!!

All this heat will be out of the way by this time tomorrow, I predict.

Yes, darker and darker here - the odd big spot of rain and distant rumblings of thunder... The Macbeth quotes seem more and more appropriate: remember that amazing line:

                "Light thickens..."

                That's exactly what's happening here

It was really dark here about an hour ago in Kent/Greater London but it seems to have gone over now.

It's cooler with curtains closed, also windows. Wish I had something nice to drink with my lunch time sarnie.....

Very pleasant day here today, sunny, slight breeze. No thickening light here. Heading west tomorrow. What will the weather be like there, I wonder?

W Scotland? Showers, near normal temperatures, I would think.

Very unpleasant day here. Morning gloomy, dark, hills hidden by mist, then tipping rain. Hurrah! 2pm clears to blue and sun. Now changed to dull thickening light and dark clouds building but warmish at 22C. Good weather for puddocks!

Sunny again here now, with the storms moving away to the east. 27 C.

The sky here at midday was just like something Salvador Dali was in the habit of concocting for his dreamscapes - how I wished I still had a camera!

Same over the Pennines. Yesterday, the day began with rain, cleared up at lunchtime and was glorious the rest of the day. Today it's the other way round: sunshine this morning, wet since lunchtime.
