I only had little icicles but they too have thawed. It is a damp, cold and dismal morning here in Southampton - the occasional wet lump still clinging to the branches. Treacherous underfoot - I'll need my stick again, no doubt.

I probably shouldn't be asking this on a Radio 3 Forum, but if like me your car has got stuck in the snow (in my case in the driveway) and the wheels are spinning, is it better to put one's dry bit of sacking/whatever in front or behind the drive wheels? Tried both - getting nowhere fast. All suggestions gratefully received.

The snow's melting rapidly here now, leaving behind slush and drizzle. Much nastier IMO although at least the tap at the back of the house is no longer frozen. It was -9 when I started off for work yesterday morning - the coldest temperature recorded in Malvern for 100 years according to the local paper. Still balmy compared to some parts of the country, though.

Sal-- sorry to hear it! I tried to look up an easy way to fix everything, but there's not really any quick, cheap solution.
Have you tried throwing rocks to get them before they get you?
However, I did find something that suggests it could be a problem with insulation in your attic. You don't have leaks too, do you? Agh.
Don't forget your Yaktrax or other anti-ice shoe grippers:

I'd just posted this elsewhere when I saw your post.
