Thanks for your kind welcome. I didn't post on the old boards very much but did enjoy reading the posts. I look forward to getting hold of Lorna Sass's books. Both the vegetarian and food history sound interesting. I grew up in a large family in which we gathered at the table every evening for dinner. There was always ceremony as well as drama. The wooden mallets would have gone done a treat with our clan!
Thanks for the link to kusc. I also like university stations as they tend to have original, sometimes quirky programming rather than canned stuff. Here in RI I can get WRIU on air. One can also listen online. This is the station of the University of Rhode Island. Growing up in the Boston (Mass.) area I used to listen Harvard Radio, WHRB. They are known for their musical orgies...24 hours or so of a single composer. WBUR, Boston University Radio was also quite good. It was on WBUR that I first heard The Goon Show.
