M 44 secret squirrel. Hello, a bit of both re the Malverns. I was with friends and it was a sudden snowstorm. probably inthe 1950s. I love those Hills,not just forthe Elgar association but for themselves. I had a wonderful day, hot and sunny, when with a girl friend this time we walked right along the top path from the Beacon to the British Camp.

Lucky you to live in Guildford. I used tospend a lot oftime with yet another friend,now gone, who lived in Onslow Village and played the violin in one of the Guildford

I walked out this morning to get the papers and some little b*ggers have graffiti tagged the side of my house.

I would usually immediately paint it over so there is no indication it was ever there, but what is particularly frustrating is that the paint I have for such things can't be used when the temperature is below 8C.

with my parents living in West Malvern (bu down the hill a little bit), it was often quicker to get into town (and certainly more picturesque) to go 'up and over' (sugar loaf hill) than along the West Malvern Road. Thing is I often stopped off at the St Anne's Well cafe for some spring water and/or a cup of something warm, so it took longer than planned! Still, a good way to sober up after a night on (in?) the town!

I would venture to suggest Onslow Village is not quite what it was, however....!

Lovely sunny day here, nothing like the forecast. I think they make it up. I can see from the window that the car's covered in snow, though the roads and pavements are clear.

Morning all from Kent/SE London. I can see a VERY thick white frost but not snowing yet. Can't help thinking at this rate it's going to be a very long winter. I remember climbing the Malvern Hills in a snow storm at Easter once. I remember 1947 [just] and,Ithink 1963, when an elderly aunt got'trapped' with us for amonth and everyone gotvery tetchy.............saly

On the question of stormy weather, we had a few nasty road accidents in this area on Wednesday and Thursday. People just hadn't got into the habit of careful driving. But on returning hope from York at midnight yesterday, most people were a model of good sense.

Perhaps E_A we up here do after all come from a "different country". Daughter 3 who has a degree from Oxford and, I would say a slight, Geordie accent has a temporary job in Marks and Sparks Cambridge. Yesterday after she served a lady who kindly(?) said
"That was very good it must be difficult coming from another country and working those tills"!!!

Returning to the weather, I do think it's both amusing (and slightly annoying) that a sprinkling of the wrong kind of snow in The South suddenly becomes headline news, whereas our snow, a few days earlier, was only squeezed in towards the end.

Now the local trade Decorator Centre tells me that the paint that can be used below 8C can't be mixed in the colour I need.

I have to wait until the temperature rises above 8C (which might be 11th Dec if the Metcheck forecast is to believed) before I can get this graffiti covered up.

It snowed heavily overnight here in York and it looks lovely in the bright sunshine. Just about to venture out in it to go foraging for provisions - ok, I'm just going to the market to get some fish! :)

secret squirrel. It mustbe 15 years or more since my friend in Onslow Village died and haven't been back. It was a quiet spot then apartfrom the M3and other busyroads quite near.
