Were the Thames Barrier ever to prove ineffective, at least property prices around this part of London would rocket!

Earlier a squirrel drank from my little 'high up' birdbath, a blackbird on the other side. They ignored each other, thank goodness. I thought the bird might be the next snack for the squirrel.

They've been learning peaceful co-existence, from history, maybe?

It's not going to rain all week is it?

                Such rain is heaven sent;
But wherever you go, you never need know that it's
                Chucking it down in Gwent

In the heart of the capital city
                  The weather's rather shitty
                  Five hours on the river
                  Will make me shiver -
You can tell it won't be pretty.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It looks and feels like September today. We've had heavy rain this morning and brisk NE winds this afternoon. Leaves litter the ground in an autumnal fashion. Summer hasn't even begun officially and it's already pretending to be fall. Oh well, no need to break out the sundresses and sandals!

Earlier, saly mentioned a little face-off between a squirrel and a blackbird. We've had three cheeky squirrels living in a tree near the back terrace, who have come to expect handouts of stale bread and toast crumbs. These were originally put out for the birds but the squirrels have taken over. The birds choose their moments, though, and we still get a delightful bunch of birds that includes a pair of cardinals.

It chucked it down all night, constant light rain this morning, low cloud obscuring the hills. Brightening slightly, hopeless to think about doing anything in the garden so I intend to watch some of the pageant on the Thames and hopefully the cameras will zoom in on Caliban as he waves his Union Jack flag on the celebrities barge! It just seems a bit grey and dull in London at the moment and from Met Office map Kent will be getting the heavy stuff! Edit: there's going to be a big anti-monarchy protest at Tower Bridge

Andrew Marr(ed) described the scene as "looking rather like a Monet" - to which the organiser of the "flotilla", (for such it is - not a convoy), as Whistleresque, or some such adjective. Turner would be more like it - a Turner run out of paint, resorting to H and HB pencils.

DID Monet paint pictures of the Thames, anyone know?

The developing weather pattern doesn't look good, for the rest of the summer, I'm afraid.
