Yes! Pork not port... Freudian shlip... *hic*

Do you bring back a lamb from the mountain in the cab boot, and butcher it expertly in your utility room?

Indeed. A variety of port products............

Hence the old saying, "Any port in a storm".

A veil of high cloud which extended right across the sky here an hour ago has now completely dispersed - which is pretty unprecedented ime - and although the wind's got up to a Force 5, the barometer's as steady as a rock. Maybe the clouds and the barometer are trying to tell me the weatherpersons have got it wrong, and the predicted deluge won't happen tonight, or just be a trickle. It'l be interesting to see who's got it right, this time.

It's been mild and sunny in Liverpool today (on and off). The only real cloud on the horizon is that one of the long list of no-marks will become Liverpool's Mayor this week.

Bit of rapid backtracking required from this end, because since 2 hours ago we've had successive thick layers of thundery-type altocumulus in triplicate spreading in from the SE while the surface wind remains steadfastly NE. A large quite heavy rain shadow showed up not far to the east of Maidstone an hour ago, which is heading our way. This is quite a rare phenomenon in the UK - commoner in the US, where they "do" weather much more dramatically than here - but the last occasion I remember was May 2005, and it resulted in spectacular high-base thunderstorms with incessant lightning displays and heavy, if not torrential rain spells.

Looks like a night of interrupted sleep!

PS What's happened to tonight's heavily pre-advertised Panorama on Madeleine McCann?

Wel, I was right about the lightning - (past himself on the back) - but somebody else got all the heavy rain.

S-A, we got the heavy rain! It's April showers on May 1st here. I'm glad to have this rain to fill up our new rain barrel and moisten the hard, dry soil.

Flood again here. Problem is, local river, takes all the water rushing down from hills, meets main river, cannot discharge into that, backs up, spews all over the place. Environment Agency can only give 2 to 4 hours warning, it's so rapid. So, 12.20 Warning. 2.20 It's across the road, 3,00 road closed, buses cancelled! 4.00, misery, cut off, wrong side of river. Try and get a cab? I did, first thing this morning, go down and look at the mouth of it, the ducks were all lined up on the grass bank looking very fed up, the swans were braving it, but close to the bank. So much debris floating down, uprooted trees, etc. But, to be honest, who wants to live in the City, much more exciting down here ..... No, I am way above the waterline, unless it is a flood of Biblical Proportions, but Mother Nature is really quite awesome when she gets going.
