      Happy Birthday, salymap!

Glad to hear that you had a family 'do' on Sunday, your chums here will be raising a mug of Typhoo or two to you throughout the day, I'm sure

Not exactly celebratory weather here in NW6, grey, windy & wet but possibly a tad milder?

Whatever ... have a great day!

And whoooop whooooop from me too, saly - have a peaceful day, hope your re-tuned telly is all sorted now. Lovely day for staying in with one of those old fillums!! (Film 4's had a good season on lately, I've got Passport to Pimlico and Went The Day Well? queued up to see... Sorely tempted to chuck a sickie and curl up today!)

        Many happy returns !

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Thanks a lot and hope you see some sun today. It's trying to come out here but still raining. There must be a rainbow somewhere. Cue for song

Thanks Caliban, yes when I finish part 6 of Smiley's People I may chose an old film. Isn't Went the Day Well about the Nazis infiltrating an English village and the locals' resistance to them? I've got it somewhere, must look forit.

That's the one... Directed by the glamorously named Cavalcanti http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Went_the_Day_Well%3F

saly - all good wishes from Shepherd's Bush where - briefly? - the sun has come out - I hope the gap in the clouds is travelling to-you-wards so that you can have a bit of sunshine with your elevenses!

Thanks Vinteuil, The sun almost came out, if that is possible, but has disappeared again. I wonder if the hose-pipe ban will really last 'til Xmas,as promised?

Have been eating small[fairy] cakes covered in icing and with hundreds and thousands on them, made by a thirtyish cousin. Takes me back to childhood parties and shan't want much lunch

judging by the water level in the large reservoir in the middle kingdom salymap the hosepipe ban may well last until spring ... by which time the water companies will have raised their prices again ... it has been pelting it down this morning in Rutland with dark skies and squally wind ...

i envy you the limited appetite since i packed the ciggies in have been eating like a hog ... i could easily manage those delightful home made cakes and a full lunch ....

and i meant to say Happy Birthday too ..

                      Many happy returns, saly!

All good wishes - and we're right in the middle of a depression. One's meteorological, no wonder it's so rainy, so make that two!

Seconded! Disgusting weather, but will help the garden. Presumably you got your TV channels sorted, and you are now being bombarded with those high power digital waves rather than the similarly powerful analogue ones which have now disappeared. Your analogue signal should have been fantastic.

Yes, many happy returns, saly. Enjoy your fairy cakes, and your all-digital tv!

Remember it gives Radio Three (in fact, all BBC radio) as well.

Thanks for asking, Dave2002! Like everyone else, I suspect, I had to re-tune this morning, and now - guess what? - all my usual channels are fully accessible again.

The old analogue should have been perfect, but the closeness of the transmitter, coupled with the imediate proximity of the rest of the building I live in putting me in the shadow, meant constantly having to realign my indoor aerial. We're under Dulwich College Estates regulations disallowing rooftop aerials here - for appearances' sake I presume, or because being close to the Crystal Palace mast is assumed by the DCE squirearchy not to necessitate having them. They'd only permit one satellite dish for our entire block consisting of 14 flats! Set against these disadvantages, one has, of course, to acknowledge the undoubted benefits of living in what is a very beautiful district, and only six (easily cycleable, but not today!) miles from the West End.

Thanks mangerton. I've been recording R3 concerts on the new box for some time as the sound is better than any ofmy radios. Wish I could add works played etc on the list but have to keep a separate note of them.
An old deep TV but good sound IMO.
