Can't do dialect, but there was always a controversy as to whether it was the month or the tree that was meant. I am keeping my clouts firmly on for the moment

If you think it's bad weather here, my advice to anybody thinking of taking a week's break anywhere down the Med, is?... DON'T!

Whenever I've tried giving up I've found the same thing. I guess, beforehand, the bugs just took one look down there and said to themselves, "No way are we going in there"!

I can't do dialect either though I've heard it enough (usually in jest) to get the drift here. I'm with you, saly, about keeping one's clouts on. It's still wooly jumper weather here though they keep telling us it's going to be in the 60s by the weekend! Sunshowers and windy here this afternoon. I was going to go for a walk but have decided to work at my desk instead. We have to go to a reception this eve (5-7) which means that I have to keep my 'do (as in hair) looking spiffy and not windblown.

Hot toddies any good? I make mine with brandy, red wine (Italian is best) and acacia honey. VERY hot in the saucepan. Never needed any excuse except moderately cold weather...

Ah - a woman after me own heart, to be sure! Naturally, coming as I do from a certain civilised northern country, I tend to make mine with malt whisky more often than not (with a dash of drambuie, a tiny drop of lemon juice, a little manukah honey and a wee bit o' molasses) but, given that I eventually plan to emigrate to a country to the immediate one to the south of the one to the immediate south of that of my origin, I've already experimented with one made from cognac, an extra vieux pineau des charentes, some charentais honey and, again that wee bit of molasses. VERY hot in the saucepan, as you say, in both cases - albeit prepared always with great care, since one does not want to risk the need to alert les pompiers!

I believe that it's a Welsh term, so maybe Anna will help out here if she's around...

Antibiotics - SCREAM!! I don't think there's one left I don't react badly to... everything from violent... well, you know - to all-over sunburn (which I never get from the sun itself you understand - got my wish and baked in it for 3 hours under glass today - heaven, again...).

Yes AH, I've overdone the cognac and set fire to the pan occasionally, spectacular leaping blue flames to enliven a dark December day. As I never panic about anything, I blew them out and enjoyed the resulting hot liquor.
