Steady moderate snow been falling here for an hour now - as opposed to the "possible light flurries" of the official forecast earlier - laying to a depth of half an inch already. No gritting whatever, even of the main road.

And here. I am finding it pretty stressful. Elderly parents. One with brittle bones. Another taken ill for a week. They have had to arrange for a cab to get to the GP for one to have blood tests tomorrow. Don't know whether it will be able to enter the road. Then umpteen further appointments in the weeks ahead. We even had the pack ready some days ago in case one needed emergency treatment in a hospital the other side of Croydon. Thankfully it wasn't needed. For the moment it is all on a even-ish keel but I will be mightily relieved as soon as the b-----y stuff melts. Absolutely hate it more than I can express in words.Last edited by Guest; 09-02-12, 21:16.

salymap - Thank you for your kind wishes. I do appreciate them. Are you able to get a daytime appointment? My father was originally booked in for 7pm. By changing it, it made things slightly easier for him and freed up a space for someone in daytime work. He had to stop eating and drinking last night at 9pm and went back to bed then with the electric blanket. He didn't enjoy it much and wasn't looking forward to today but in many ways he feels relieved that some of the tests have been done - Lat.

Lat, our surgery schedules blood tests from 8.15am onwards to make the lack of a cuppa and breakfast more bearable. However, as you are allowed to have water I find a mug of hot water in the morning makes it more bearable!
After all the warnings yesterday we just got very heavy overnight rain but - it's now just started snowing heavily (which was not forecast at all for today!) and it seems to be sticking!
Edit: 2 hours on and snow stopped, thank goodness and getting brighter by the moment.Last edited by Guest; 10-02-12, 16:29.

Thank you Anna. Your advice is helpful. We didn't realise about the water. I will check on the starting times for blood tests for the next time. Good luck with the Welsh weather. We haven't had any more snow today but it is due again on Tue-Wed, just before his Thur appointment! I saved one crash to the ground today. As soon as he sees someone he knows who can take his mind off things - almost everyone locally - he forgets the environment he is in and his condition as soon as he or they say "hello".

salymap - If you are on the phone, perhaps you could give them a ring on Monday? Just a suggestion but if you do that, by the time they have got a letter to you, we should then - hopefully - be past the worst of the snow. That is what I would do I think. Do let us know how you get on with it. - Lat.

Just got home and the car shows it's minus seven out there. And one of today's papers promises 'ice and chaos' for half-term. week

Well if it's the Mail or Express, just ignore it... Met Office and BBC Site show slowly rising temperatures across the weekend, not much sun (boo!) but less severe cold (rah!). We're very lucky, with a small southwest-facing conservatory where we revelled in last week's sun... contemplating it, behind glass, between 1200 and 1500 was almost an act of worship!
Sympathies to all awaiting tests! I'm out of the woods for now, but Mum had her 3/02 appt. cancelled at the last minute, put back to 15/03! And she's in pain, and might otherwise be quite active for her 90 years. Just a couple of years ago everything ran very smoothly, we both had excellent care, rapidly delivered. Now they're putting the accountants in charge once again...Originally posted by Mahlerei View PostJust got home and the car shows it's minus seven out there.
