Happy New Year to you too saly! 2012 begins in half an hour for you but we've another 5 1/2 hours to go before we pop the cork and greet the New Year. We don't have a TV anymore so won't be watching the ball drop in Times Square this year. Years ago, for New Year's eve, we used to put the radio dial on the SW band to listen for the chimes of Big Ben at midnight on BBC World Service. That's when we rang home to Mum and Dad just at midnight (7 PM for us.) Best wishes to everyone for the New Year!

Very, very windy, driving rain and dark. Coffee and cake for me as therapy.
Pass the cake slice and PLEASE don't tell the diabetes nurse

It was very bad during the night and this morning until around 11am, brief respite and it's closed in again just as bad, winds gusting up to 50mph, several trees down blocking roads, luckily no flood warnings or lack of power here but temperature has dropped considerably. Cake seems the best option!

Well at least the 15 minute midday deluge as the cold front passed through appears to have washed my windows clean! Apparently winds gusted up to around 60 mph - only 15 mph short of hurricane force - but for a brief time the rain was of an intensity I've only seen in footage of hurricanes, visibility down to 200 metres, broken off branches thwacking into the glass. Pretty scary!
