There is definitely something addictive about marzipan, and almonds in general. My grandson has started icing the fruitcake I made last week. I fully expect to find the top covered in Lego.
Toothache is really bad luck....hope it's better now.
False alarm this time, what the dentist calls 'sensitive nerve pain' cured by good toothpaste.
Thanks goodness, the days will now get longer, albeit, very slowly. It ain't Spring yet by a long way.

Saly, toothpaste can certainly make a difference. My dentist recommended a toothpaste for sensitive teeth which has helped my sensitive teeth! With all the sweets around (marzipan anyone?), my teeth need all the help they can get. The sun has just come out after a rainy morning! Time to do a few last-minute errands.

For a deep 7 inch square Christmas cake, make royal icing in the usual way with egg white, but add a squeeze of lemon juice and a dessert spoonful of glycerin. This results in very nice icing that is easy to cut through and doesn't break your teeth.
Home made marzipan is easy too, and much better than the bought stuff. My cake got it's marzipan about ten days ago, after three weeks with a tot of cream sherry painted on each weekend.
It's now iced and decorated, but I doubt if there will be room for it before Boxing Day !

BBM I hope you're feeling better and that the wind and rain take a holiday for the holiday! Ferretfancy, your Christmas cake sounds delicious! If Sarah and Patty's cakes weren't so delicious, I would try your method myself! Tots of sherry to all! Tomorrow's a big baking day for me. I'll be making Danish Christmas breads to serve and bring to friends. This is a sweet bread made with lots of eggs, butter, sugar, sultanas, almonds, glace cherries, and cardamom. I usually make the dough into rounds loaves or braided rings. This smells heavenly while baking.

Grey but mild (11), just listened to the R4 Christmas Service, which was very good. I don't recall many snowy Christmasses either. Now to make my phone calls before I set to on sprout duty!

I seem to remember many more White ones in my youth and childhood.
Very mild here today in fact we have had hardly any frosts so far this winter - again if boyhood memory serves if there was no snow, "..... earth stood hard as iron....."

Iremember one or two very snowy Christmas hols in the 30s [shock, horror]. In about 1935, when I was 5, the one family car then took us to the Kent coast, with my relative's two Alsation dogs. We all had a lovely time in the snow. Then 1947 and 1963 are years never forgotten. Walking home from work, frozen pipes and no central heating. Does anyone remember those years?
