... i can empathise with that greenilex, i once crossed the Atlantic in a container ship [reasonably maintained] through mostly very stormy weather ... the height of the water gets to you .... and we all watched the crack developing in the main deck with great interest .... happy that your voyage was a safe one!

I think I'd be prepared to do it again in a different cargo ship. Ours had a swimming pool full of algae and a captain in T-shirt and flip-flops who hadn't a clue...

Lovely view of New York harbour, though.

Very windy here too. Have rescued neighbour's rubbish bins which keep taking off down the road. Glad to see they have now either escaped or been taken in.

Tomorrow is expected to be even winder - and wet for most of the day. I hope they're wrong, but usually they're right when it's bad weather they're predicting - seldom the other way around!

S -A, not in a container in this case but in the second officer's accommodation - I hasten to add that he was not included in the package.

Large bed, large bathroom. hanging wardrobe. sofa, large desk and chair. armchair, large card-table, but hadn't been properly cleaned since the ship was built 12 years previously.

                  Morning all.

Force 8 gusting 9 all day down here in Chichester Harbour. I'm thinking of strapping a spinnaker to to my bike to get to work this evening....

On the flight back last Wednesday night the pilot told us we were experiencing turbulence from Irene - disturbed upper atmosphere.

I'm wondering whether the effects are still with us?

Must be Irene's recrossed the Atlantic (in reduced form)! We're, meanwhile, experiencing the after effects of TS Lee. Lot's of rain, though not much wind, here today. Vermont is still clearing up after Irene. We'll have to pick our routes when we go up there 16th-19th. Whole sections of the road (Route 100) that skirts the Green Mountains have been washed out. Greenilex, glad that you made it back safely.

Just as a matter of interest, was Texas hit at all?

According to yesterday's news, Texas caught the edge of another tropical depression, leading to one of the worst grassland fires in living memory getting right out of control.
