Has anyone got daffs blooming in their gardens? I haven’t but the osteospermum developed buds which are now open, the geraniums are still in full flower and very buddy, the kerria is in full bloom and the rudbeckia hasn’t stopped. So far we’ve had just two frosts, it’s strange getting up on December mornings to find it’s over 12° and on the 5th my energy supplier sent me their 6 month review that showed compared to this time last year I’ve used 10% less gas – there’s been no need for heating. At the other end of the scale my sister (Teesside, Barnard Castle) woke up last weekend to 4” of snow!

When the Bewick swans arrived early there were predictions of a harsh winter but the Met Office long range did predict current above average temps and rainfall due to El Nino – the strongest one on record – which will also trigger an intensely cold end to the winter like we had at the end of 2010. Not sure what they class as the end of winter – March or February? Winter officially starts next week on the 22nd.

(I know I haven’t posted lately, due to trials and tribulations, the slings and arrows, broadband problems, etc., so need to catch up on what’s been happening to everyone)

Hi Anna, sorry to hear about your problems, and good to see you back.

As you say, the weather at the moment is most odd - 12º here this morning.

Welcome back Anna - we had a blast of snow but it remains overall, thus far, by far the warmest December I can ever remember - not a flake of frost on the highest pit heap .....

The temperature here has reached 14.5 C, and enough warmth from the watery sun, albeit low in the sky, could be enough to give parts of the country their highest ever recorded temperature for December, which is sixteen point something on what I was going to describe as the Richter Scale!

Lovely to have you back with us, Anna. Hope you've managed to transcend all your problems! Many of the same species are blooming over here, too. I might take an observational walk this afternoon.

Warm oop 'ere, powerful westerly, sometimes with rain, BUT given floods we have already had, more is now 'promised' this w/end. Hmm.

                    Blooming 'eck, it's Anna!

Quite, quite astonishing weather here - went to a Christmas dinner last night... Set out with no coat, just a shirt and cardigan, and (arriving early, like one other person) we sat at a table outside with an apéritif in perfect comfort (no artificial heaters); the restaurant had all doors open wide throughout the evening; and the windows were open on the cab ride home after midnight. Like being in Southern California...

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Crikey, mangers, for a minute I thought you had written minus 12! On the other hand - Dundee - maybe you had done so!

Three days ago I was working in my office with the radiator on plus a convector heater. Today, the window is wide open, and the balmy air is swirling round my head. How things can change.

Yes quite. Sorry. I read it after I'd posted it, and thought it looked slightly ambiguous! It's very mild here for the time of year, and in fact it was quite sunny a couple of hours ago. Now it's overcast again, in these northern climes, and the shades of night are falling fast. No snow, ice, or banners, however.

It's been 14.5° here but just suddenly torrential rain for nearly an hour. Bits of blue and a mix of black and white clouds. It's been so unseasonable, no frosts, still lots of leaves on trees, that it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it still feels like September. However, last weekend I spent hours constructing a wreath for the front, I'm very pleased with it, it has loads of red berries, festive fruits and I've intertwined some sleigh bells so it'll be melodic in the breeze! (Actually - it's more of an art installation. )

Nice looking restaurant and menu Cali - you didn't tell us what you had - bet it was the scallops, magret and brulee!!

So good to have you back, Anna

Bizarre weather recently - this time last week, I was down in Eastbourne, where temperatures were ten degrees higher than in Yorkshire. Coming back, I'd had my coat (all those cruppy jokes) open as I walked around E/b and London stations, but the cold air getting off in Leeds was like having my legs slapped!

Today, we've reached those South Coast temperatures: 13 degrees here and in Skipton - a bit grey and generally overcast, but could be (and has been recently) a lot worse!

Nope! Crab, fillet steak - and no pud!

.... Nice glass of Grand Marnier to finish, though but!

When does your case come up and do you need a Brief?

"needing a brief" was very similar to some of the comments I heard in Eastbourne. (Along with "needing a magnifying glass", which I thought unkind.)
